It's because she's quite clearly exactly what she claims to be. No one else can even approach her level of intelligence. Actually, I take that back. It's possible that her daughter Ryoko could match her; Washu DID genetically engineer Ryoko to be perfect in every way, including intellect. If Ryoko isn't as smart as Washu, then that would mean Washu failed at her goal. Which clearly is impossible. The problem is, Ryoko's never been in a school except to blow it up. :D If Ryoko ever put forth the effort to learn, she'd be a great scientist too. She just doesn't seem to want to be one. And no, I'm not just being a Ryoko fanboy. I'm quite serious about this. If you say Ryoko's not smart, you're also insulting Washu's intelligence, which isn't a wise thing to do.
