Subject: costly problems

At the 2 year mark, major problems occurred. (Of course it's out of warranty). First the allignment went out: $400 to repair. Next, a bulb went out, leaving a permanent pink dot in the center of the screen: $700 to repair. I guess those extended warranties the loser salespeople always try to push may not be such a bad idea.

I have been using this TV set for about three years and have nothing but praise for it. Excellent picture, rivalling even most of much newer big screen TV sets. I got aan extended warranty from Circuit City, but have not yet used it, the TV works perfectly.

Subject: Hitachi 43FDX01 won't turn on

My Hitachi 43FDX01b makes a chirping noise when I try to turn it on. I had this problem 6 months ago and the TV shop replaced (excuse me while I copy from the invoice):
2 2000 volt sweep condensers
2 IC protectors
horizontal amp transistors
repaired horz drive PCB for $250.00.

I'm pretty good at fixing things and really don't want to put any money out on this TV, can this be done by an amatuer?

Thanks,
Steve
