Mitsubishi VS-45603
Quite simply, this TV is awesome, particularly given the price. The picture is the best I've seen at anything less than about twice the price. With the large 7" projection tubes, the relatively small (for projection TV) 45" screen is very bright, perfect for viewing even in a brightly lit room, and very sharp. Colors are deep and saturated without being overdriven or smeared. Sound is very good for a TV. The array of control features, including the 64-point digital convergence, is nothing short of incredible.

My only nits are a so-called multi-brand remote control that won't handle non-Mitsubishi DVD players or A/V receivers, although it can handle many brands of VCR (including my Toshiba); and a hulking dead-black box appearance. (Even the screen is black when the TV is off.)

My space is limited to 45" screen or less, so my only other projection alternatives were the Sony KP-41T65 and Toshiba TP43H95. Both suffer from being "tabletop" units -- the small size forces the projection tubes to large angles, compromising picture quality. The Sony is downright mediocre -- three floor models all demonstrated serious convergence errors that could not be corrected. Toshiba has a much more sophisticated chassis than Sony and does much better, but still falls significantly below the Mitsubishi in picture quality, and is more expensive to boot.

I totally agree with the first person's comments on this TV. I had the same dilemma with space and also considered the sony and Toshiba units. The Sony doesn't even have a means to adjust convergence manually. Sony has gone to something they call "flash focus" which is supposed to set convergence automatically. NOT! The convergence setup on the Mitsubishi is absolutely the best I've seen. The picture is very tight and crisp. It is bright, the blacks are black and the whites are white. Nothing came close for the price ($1499).

The remote works with my Sony VCR, Toshiba SD-2109 DVD player and my Sony DSS.

I'm very impressed. About the only thing I don't like is the depth of the menus. You have to take several steps to go through several menus to get to some of the settings, but I can certainly live with that.

I am not happy with this model, I bought this set on 11/01/98. Now the turner is bad, I can't receive TV channel at all(like "SNOW" picture.) I called service center, they have no idea and asked pay $89.99 for a service call (visit), then they say the turner cost $54.00 the labor will be much higher.
I have 5 set of TVs in my home one JVC, three Sony, however Mitsubishi is only big screen TV I had. Rest of 4 TV set work perfectly, I bought my JVC 18 years ago , it is still in good shape. From this bad experience I never trust the Mitsubishi brand, it is not name brand to me at all . I will send complaint to Consume Report as well.

machine died after 3 years, so far 6 weeks Mitsubishi service cannot repair. They took out main circuit board. They say there is a problem with this set. They are trying to repair. That is what you get for paying for an extended warranty at Good Guys
