My first DVD player. Easy to setup and operate. Price can't be beat (under $300) to get a great video signal.

where to get a good deal of $199? I tried it in Sears, video quality is pretty good! The headphone output is 30mW, powerful enough to drive my Sennheiser HD 580 headphone.

Philips DVD825
Outstanding DVD player for the money. Bought mine for $139.00 as was a demo unit. No reason not to go DVD at this price. Thought I was compromising on quality by buying an inexpensive player, boy was I wrong. The picture quality and features make this unit a steal even at the MSRP.

Philips DVD825
Great picture quality excellent for the price if you are only going to use it as a DVD player. Problems as a CD player I have are clipping off the first fraction of a second of audio when you press play on songs that start with no silence first. If you press pause then start from the begining then un pause it then it plays from very begining ok. It also cuts off the audio early on the last track of the CD about half a second early unless the song was recorded with silence at the end of the track. Very dissapointing on these two flaws. Otherwise its great as a DVD and the price is very affordable. Just don't throw out your old CD player yet.

Philips DVD825
Plays CD-RW discs. Couldn't find another player that would do that.
Only thing I can't make it do is play still picture VideoCD disc I made on CD-R
with CeQuadrat software. Anyone know why? email ellis@verinet.com

How come Philips doesn't have any info on this player on their web page?
When I called Philips service they didn't have any info on this player other than what was in the owner's manual.

I am tickled with the Philips...at $250 it has features that other brands have for $100+ more. No problems whatsoever...video and audio are superb...Main reason I went with Philips was the dual lasers and my CDs sound great...

Philips DVD825
Excellant Video performance, great as a starter DVD and it has a great menu screen and easy to follow on screen instructions. Problem i have though - it is region coded to region 1 - great for America but not much good for the rest of the world. The player will play NTSC or PAL easilly, but if anyone knows how to make it compatible with region 2, i would really appreciate the info.

Great player for all.

Philips DVD825
got mine for REAL cheap....
I like it, I like it a lot.
could be helpful as a player : mac
interface (or any other pc w/ s-video
capabilities) S-video is superior to
any other digital video transfer through
cable for the home user.
I like it...
The controls are very user friendly...
as long as you aren't a neophyte!!

Good dvd player, but having trouble with vcds. It doesn't play pal vcds, the screen turns black and white and starts to roll. I tried switching from ntsc format to pal but it didn't work.

Philips DVD825
we sell this player at my store and while it seems to be more reliable than it's replacement (the 940) it still has given us problem with freezing on certain discs. Gold dvd discs especially (the 940 is horrible on this- a recall went out at our store on these) but some 825 units are doing the same. Just an FYI

Philips DVD825
Plays DVD's with no problem. However when connecting it to a Philips CDR 570 and
trying to burn some CD's, both factory and homemade, had some big problems.
The CD-burner would indicate "sync" and the presence of audio on the digital VU
meters, but it would not "auto-start". Or... it would auto-start on the track
and the "VU meter" would indicate no audio and it would record dead silence. The
connection would fail with coax or fiber-optic, and it was an intermittent problem, which made it even more frustrating, sometimes you could record for a couple of disks with absolutely no issue, and boom it would go stupid again.
When I substituted another DVD player, (Panasonic) would have none of these
problems. Wasted a few CD-R's on this one!!! Sent it back to 800.com. Like
I said, played DVD's perfectly, but had this major problem using it as a source
player for the Philips CD burner.

Great player/Great buy!!! I've had this player for a little over two years and it has operated flawlesly. At the time I brought this player there was supposed to be an upgrade disk which at the time had not been completed yet. Has anyone been able to find this upgrade disc? I've had no luck.

Thanks

Philips DVD825
Purchased one for $50 from the Aarons I run (it was pre-leased and 1 year old). Runs great!! Good features and WILL play VCDs burned w/ Nero Burning rom 5.0 + upgrade. Trick is to use a burning rom able to read sub-channels. These are where the protectin files lie that must be burned to be recognized.

Only draw back is that this DVD came w/o the correct remote. I am using a Phillips remote for a newer DVD but cannot access certain feature w/ it. Anyone know of a site where one can be purchased??

It was fine for the first 4 dvds I played, then something went screwy and it will now only play in black and white. Philips customer service was clueless and told me to try what I had already figured out on my own to try. I can't recommend this player.
