Wings of Honneamise
If you're willing to take the time to truly watch this film, you'll not regret it. While many find it too slow to start, it's a wonderful movie. The characters are very human -- they're not perfect, and they make lots of mistakes. The road to their final end is full of potholes, and takes a rather winding path. But the animation is stunning, and the writing is more mature and true-to-life than most films, animated or live.

Excellent all the way. The animation is stunning to say the least, and the story is definitely aimed at a more cerebral audience. An amazing commentary on and criticism of life and society. Humorous, thought-provoking...right up there with Akira and Ghost in the Shell as the best of anime.

Definately recommended viewing. Great animation and a unique story. Some will complain that it's too slow, but the story is what keeps this film interesting, not mindless action seen in most anime today. Let's hope Gainax will make more films like this, and Manga Ent. will continue releasing them.

I completely agree with the last reviewer. Use your heads and you'll appreciate this film. In my opinion, it's the best anime ever, and Gainax is absolutely awesome (Neon Genesis Evangelion anyone?). Great, realistic characters and a thought-provoking storyline. It's a travesty that this has a lower overall score than Ninja Scroll of all things.

Wings of Honneamise
I consider this to be one of the greatest theatrical films ever, animated or live action. This film was and is important in that it teaches us to never stop short of achieving your goals (this film was created in the wake of the Challenger tragedy) and gives us insight into the nature of man and our society in the guise of an alien civilization.

I think this movie is pretty much perfect and definitely stands shoulder to shoulder with the likes of "Ghost in the Shell" (which blew away "Akira") and considering that "Honneamise" came out over a decade ago it may actually have a couple inches height advantage.

In closing I would also like to state that Dismal... I mean Disney can only DREAM of accomplishing what GAINAX has achieved with this film and their distribution of Miyazaki's "Mononoke Princess" will be the closest they'll ever get to releasing a worthwhile animation!

I really like the alternate-world reality of this movie. I've only seen the
beginning of the film, but the of the antagonizing masses attitude is like,

"What? You're one of those wannabe space-men!?! What for? You loser!!!"

But the space-dudes have their dreams, which is cool.

Wings is a film experience in Many ways...It shows how $6 million Odd dollars was poured into creating the best anime. Ambiguous statement? Not at all, the characters look, seem, feel and ARE real.. The subtle effects in this film are quite amazing...The script goes outside Mainstream rules but does it without losing itself completely. And if the animation, direction and screenplay weren't enough the film Has a musical score which suits it better than nothing else could, Simply amazing.

Yo digo que un anime, ...desde el manga estan hechos para narrar y hacer lo que en el cine o en las historias convencionales no se puede. De modo que un anime es para que haya manazos, saltos, poderes, viejotas chichonas buenotas que a la vez sean heroinas de leyenda.

Desde ese punto de vista Wings of Honneamise, esta muy leeeento..., con caracteres muy humanos. Y cuya historia me parece harto patriotera. Parecen japoneses tratando reivindicarse ante el mundo. Aparte me parecio muy patetico el papel de la chica religiosa. Al final de cuentas no queda claro si en el futuro el astronauta y ella formaran un vinculo. Chingaos! de menos que se la hubiera cogido a la fuerza cuando tuvo la oportunidad!!!...
