I think that some of the people who rated this movie low are
people who want everything spoon fed to them, they don't want to
think about anything, they just want to see pure action and
violence, and thats not all there is to a movie. This movie has
you thinking about whats going on during and after the movie. It's
complex story keeps you interested and thinking, it doesn't rely
on violence to keep you entertained. The animation I will say is
definately the best I've seen, in anime, Disney or any other type
of cartoons.

Akira is way to overhyped. The story is also very hard to follow. I mean giant teddy bears that bleed milk. I didn't like Akira very much.

I thought that Akira was the most awesome anime movie I had ever seen. The animation was absolutely fantastic and the plot was a real mind-boggler. You really had to get into the movie to understand what was going on. I think that Katsuhiro Otomo has an innate talent for animation, a mastery of the art of storytelling, and the ability to inspire an audience. There is nothing that can compare. I have yet to see the movie that rivals Akira.

Awesome animation. The plot is not for the weak-minded. The power of the movie is better suited for ones with an intelligent open mind. High IQ's like it. Low IQ's don't.

I believe that Akira was extremely complex and thought provoking. It is something that you ca nview again and agian and still discover new insights. Also, the animation was absolutely incredible. Characters were complicated and multi-dimentional. However, I feel that it would be beneficial for any view of the movie to read the manga.

The animation was definitely great. Anime is taking the world by storm and this is definitely one of the ones that has started it all. And the story makes plenty of sense once you know what it is. It was funny at times and the characters were good. The Clowns could have been in the movie a little more. This film gets you into anime and made me want to draw. I was into the movie. Its an inspiration to me.

The Images in AKIRA defy any attempt at preparation, it depicts the most gruesome, viloent, and original caticlisams that I have ever seen. True otakus, however, will want the subtitled, because dubbing is scetchy, and often doesn't blend with the charachters lip movements. An Arthouse beauty, but the belivability wavers from time to time, and the ending is very abstract, so I guess you'll need to talk you'r way through the whole film when you're done. I would recomend this to any peson who has seen a little anime, but not to people looking for an anime to start with. For them, I suggest you try digesting somthing with a little less complexity, (i.e. Ninja Scroll, Macross D.Y.R.L.) You need to work you'r way up to Akira

Definitely the top visual animation out there. Unfortunately the story is a bit hazy and simplistic for such a wonderful spectacle. This is my complaint with a lot of the anime out there. World-class visuals with jerky, simplistic stories and characters. Akira is the absolute finest of animation but a distant second to Ghost In The Shell in overall feature quality. Worth having, though.

This was incredibly boring and too confusing. I like the directing as the "feel" of the movie is good, but there's nothing really entertaining about this movie. What was the seal with the ending anyway? Why were they happy even though everyone in the city was dead? Sorry for ruining the ending, but you probably won't get it anyway.
