Pretty good. Plenty of action. Confusing beginning, but you would understand it after seeing the movie over and over. Plot is well laid and the graphics are moderately impressive. I think this movie deserves this rating.

I really enjoyed this one for the reason it made you think and really get in to it. There's not many animated film that give that affect out there. Not to mention the artwork at times too life-like.

Liked the animation but the story is hard to follow. WHO THE HELL
IS AKIRA DAMMIT!!!!They said "Kenada!!!!!!!!!" and"Tetsuoooooo!!!
way too much.the best part is the bike part but it gets boring from
there.

This is the one everyone's heard of. Sad thing is, people either love it or hate it. Too complex for some folks while others manage to get some meaning out of it. I liked it a whole lot mostly because it was the first anime I ever saw, bu there has been better stuff (meaning cerebral and thought-provoking stuff that isn't as ambiguous as Akira, especially at the end) like Wings of Honneamise and Ghost in the Shell. Watch it, if only for the awesome animation.

Akira is a classic the animation is great but the story was too confusing but
if your an anime fan you have to see this it just would'nt be proper.

The animation was completely breathtaking, the movements were so much smoother then most animations. The plot was complicated but you understand it after at least the second time you watch it. I think my favorite thing about the movie is the fact that you notice something new every time you watch it.

Incredible animation.
The story is about biker gangs, but the real point was the thoughts on politics and society (that's why the atmosphere was so grim).
Characters were interesting too, especially the mentally tormented Tetsuo.
Plot's a little confusing though.

Yes I agree this movie is overhyped, but it is a fantastic production and although I don't think it ranks with "Wings of Honneamise" and "Ghost In the Shell", it definitely is one of the greatest animations ever and is another great example in proving just how much Dismal/Disney sucks.

PS- If this movie followed the manga a little more closely I think it would have been FAR superior (the movie left far too much out).

This is the classic anime. It's really good, but it isn't as deep as some other movies I have seen. The animation is excellent, though perhaps not quite as good as "Ghost in the Shell." Definately recommended veiwing.

Very few movies dare to even approach the epic scale that Akira boasts. But this film takes that scale and hits you with it at about the top speed Kaneda's motorcycle.

My only complaint is that I found the movie incredibly hard to follow, and even by the end of the movie, a pile of questions the size of the crater Akira created are left unanswered. Most of the ideas presented in this movie are pretty much left to your own interpretation, and how you, the viewer, perceives it. Even then, it is great fun to watch, and gives a better explanation than most things about the severity of the thirst for power.

AKIRA is probably the most well-known anime feature film in America...and the most overrated. While the animation is absolutely incredible, the anime is definitely far inferior to its, sadly, highly overlooked manga counterpart. The character and plot development that made the manga such an excellent piece of work were left out of the movie for the most part, and certain characters who had a major role in the manga (including the title character himself, Akira) were given a very small part or simply not included in the anime. Nevertheless, the film version of AKIRA is definitely worth seeing, if only for the quality of the art and animation.
