An improvement on the semi-dull series. The movie is much more fast-paced and eye-catching. Plus, the Asuka battle kicks ass. But was the masturbation really necessary?

No matter how much EOE is dissected
it still seems that very few people have the
same understanding of the story, but no matter
how you understand it, love it, or hate it,
it would inevitably be foolish to claim that
it is an uninteresting movie....(that would
certainly be a very CONTROVERSIAL statement^_^)
Any EVA fan should watch it, and make up
their own mind...(but please DO TRY to
understand it before jumping to conclusions...)

Looking over the comments on
this page, I think Anno was being WAAAY
too optimistic and naive in his portrayal
of human behaviour and the limitation of our
ability to understand each other.....

Arguing over the content of the movie seems
pretty pointless since we all seem to have
been watching a different movie.....

But I´ll bet someone is gonna disagree with me....

So: I think I´ll stop worrying and love EVA^_^

Sigh . . . I don't know what to think about this movie. I really wanted to like it more than I did. Like I said before, in all technical aspects of animation, storytelling, and visual and artistic impact, this is far superior to the TV series ending. Everything looks like it was done right. Few writers and artists get a chance to redo or revise their work so substantially--particularly endings--that I would think that Anno would choose to play up the strengths that WERE in the TV ending and finally resolve the plot and the mysteries that the TV ending lacked.

So why does it feel so unsatisfying anyway?

There's a rule in character creation: "murder your darlings." In other words--as a writer/artist, you must be willing to make even your well-liked and sympathetic characters suffer, even unto death. Boy, does Anno murder HIS darlings in this movie, literally and metaphorically . . . there is not a single admirable moment for anyone here, especially not Shinji. The series presented some of his positive qualities, which were poignant when set in contrast to his normal cowardice. Here, he is, in his own words "the lowest of the low." The ending where he chooses individuality is actually the same as in the TV series, and ought to be hopeful by nature. And it seems that way (with the speech about how man will continue as long as there is EVA, remniscent of 2001) . . . and yet we have the final scene, which blows most of our hope to pieces. It seems that the "new" humanity, with Shinji and Asuka as the new Adam and Eve, is actually WORSE than the old humanity. There is none of the mix of good and bad that characterizes human nature, from all indications--there is only the bad, the negative. The TV series held out hope that maybe all of us (through Shinji) can learn to love ourselves despite all our flaws. The movie seems to say that our flaws negate any good we do have.

I respect downcast or tragic endings. This one, however, just seems to wallow in hopelessness at the very moment when redemption could have been possible. So why raise our hopes so much in the TV series--only to come to the conclusion that any happiness we do have is an illusion? This is beyond cruelty. This is inhumane. And if this is reality--there is no reason to live.

HEY I'M THE GUY WHO HATES EoE, But there is one thing I want to get clear. It Asuka and Shinji are not on the beach as Adam and Eve (well not just that), but as Adam and Christ.

'HOLY MAGI-TRINITY-OF-THREE-COMPUTERS! WHAT DID HE JUST SAY?' You ask? Think about it.

Matthew 5:29-30...Jesus says:(Paraphrased) 'If your right eye causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. Better loose a part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell, if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away, better to loose a part of your body then for all of you to go into hell.'

This may explain why People are always getting eye injurys and broken arms in Eva (pennance). It also explains why Shinji sees Asuka naked, then masturbates (he's sinning with eye and hand). How does that make the two Adam and Christ(a)? Well, in the Eva battle, Asuka Dies for Shinji and suffers the wounds that he deserved (Cut hand and punctured eye). Asuka suffors for Shinjis' Sin in Eva, thus making her the Christ figure, who ressurects. Shinji lives Because he was in an Eva? Or because Asuka took his sin and forgave him? I don't know, I just thought of this a while ago and wanted to finally blurt it out.

It's smart, it's visually amazing, it mas more Eva action than the original!

It also Snuffs the cast, rips off Dr. Strangelove, and whines more than a baby who stepped on a nail.

Sickening... simply sickening. I don't even know where to start. I watched the whole Eva series and since the final episodes released in North America were so pitifully disappointing (to say the least), I waited impatiently to see this film. Maybe it would answer those oh-too-many questions left unanswered, or close out the half-dozen or so open plot loops... one could only hope. So after all this time and no little expense, I have now found out why they pulled these original episodes... re-releasing them as a "movie" called "End of Evangelion".

Here's my situation: I was a convinced fan of Eva. I have all of the episodes on tape, but after seeing this tripe, I have had to re-examine whether or not I even like this series at all anymore. I cannot get over how disturbed I was after watching this video. **SPOILER** I spent a whole day thinking about it...and that was before I realized that Shinji was masturbating to Asuka as she lies dying in her hospital bed... **END SPOILER** What the hell is going on? These aren't even humans anymore, they are some kind of sick embodyment of the director's serious sexual issues. I feel sick just thinking about it.

I cannot recommend this film for anyone who isn't an acne-bound fanboy who has naked pictures of 13 year-old anime girls on his desktop, or maybe a pedophile. Yes, definitely a pedophile. This film is pure, unadulterated trash. Trust me, stick with the "original" ending, you'll thank me. If you have already decided to watch this film, at least please fast-forward the first five minutes. It'll make the rest of the movie strange, even bizarre, but at least watchable (maybe even enjoyable).

Oh, and it's well animated... Big deal.

This movie was one of the best anime movies I've seen. It has great action, drama and the animation. The songs on it are cool. I reckon that the drama in the story is the best in the movie. Without it this movie would hane been a rating of 7/10.

fuyutzki said it himself. it was up to shinji to decide the future. what he wanted was Asuka. he said it himself, sitting next to her at her hospital bed. all he wanted was for her to accept him, so he created a world for the two of them.

interpret it how you like... i would rather have seen all of humanity evolved into complementation, but ah well. fuck it.

Best movie ever. The story and the characters, the music, everything about this movie I love. Some very disturbing stuff, however, especially when Asuka is fighting the Evas. It is sad to see some good characters go (MISATO! NOOOOOOO!!! YOU WERE THE BEST!) but it wraps up the show quite good. Any fan of Eva should see this movie (i've seen it ten times at least)
