Drama type of anime...very good. Don't expect action though.

It may be a good story, but it was just plain boring. I'm sure
the novel is much better. I just didn't enjoy this.

A Tale of Genji sucked like learning a fucking second language. Hello!!! Does anyone here read Japanese? Would anyone here even want to learn Japanese????? I need a summary, not a freakin piece of shitola at 3 in the fuckin morning. I need a summary NOW!!!! And, I thought the cinematography was impeccable.

This is for all the person who insulted one of the great novel, "The Tale of Ganji" Well let me tell you someting. Hello somepeople does like to learn Japanese and they find this book as intresting book! Just becase you don't understand it doesn't make sucks. Guess what, you sucks! Don't any people understand the story at all?? Guess you have to born to understand it. Not like you all asshole who can't understand and said "it sucks" I like the story and understand it. Don't be so fucking closed minded and ignorant. My cauasian friend speaks better Japanese than I do and I'm half. It just goes to show that if you really want to expand your knowledge base you can, if you're not a lazy piece of shit who's too narrow-minded to put forth the effort. A lot of The Tale of Genji deals with ancient Japanese culture and that's why it's so difficult for modern, western audiences to follow. As for the shit head who wanted the cliff-notes or a summary, you wonder why Japan will always have smarter high school and college graduates?

Ohmygod! I didn't know it was an anime! I'm so exited! And as for that person who totally dissed it, I am 13 years old and I read the book and loved it! I am thinking that your intelect is a little too low, and I think it is kind of sad that you are all being dissed by a 13 year-old that knows more than you!The storyline may jump a bit as Genji goes from love to love, but it isn't THAT hard to follow!

Quite simply it's a great story and it's well animated. I understand the disappointment of some of the viewers, it isn't the most action packed story in the world, but hey! it's 12th century literature, what the hell are you expecting?!? I've also read the book and I think it's fantastic. If you are interested in really learning something about Japanese culture and have a bit of patience for subtle plotting and intricate characterization, I highly suggest this. If you're just looking for some severed limbs and big breasted women running around in scanty costumes, do us all a favor, rent something else and keep your inane comments to yourself.

Absolutely gorgeous. If you appreciate anime that actually feels japanese, rather than mimicking an 80's american police drama, you will enjoy this. As good as the book, and it adds the perfect visual accompaniment to the story. It isn't often that I see an anime that I can describe as 'beautiful' rather than 'cool.'

I thought it was great ! A good transition from the book into anime ! I really thought it was cool to see the characters I read so much about. Great movie, a true piece of history .

This flick seems to be a bit underrated here. It's been a while since I've seen this movie adaptation, however, I have watched it 3-4 times and must recommend it to all "masterpiece theatre" anime fans.

Animation is good though not stunning in the traditional "WOW" sense. But it gets the job done and the scenes are well done.

Plot: Great story, but of course only if you're into character development, internal struggles, etc, etc. This is not an action movie.

Sound Track: pleasant, though I don't remember it too well.
