X/1999 (Movie)
CLAMP's at it again, this time with one of their most popular manga works to the big screen. X is Gothic, dark, action-packed, depressing, and utterly magical to watch. The production house uses a few computer FX, and also paints some of the most stunning animation this side of Akira. The downside: this also suffers from the Akira problem; that is they had to squeeze mucho volumes of the manga into only 90 minutes, so stuff happens fast(and is confusing). Also terribly, terribly depressing. Don't schedule a double bill of Graveyard of the Fireflies and X. But this is true art, and dare I say it: could easily be the next Akira, if not in terms of American popularity, at least in scale, art, and story.

Wow, talk about tragedy. The animation was excellent, the story
was good and it was full of unhappy results. I liked this a lot,
but it's not among my favourites.

This is such a cool movie. It has great animation, blood, love, betrayal,and a wierd, but super cool story. Freaky music, too.

The story does seem confusing in the movie unless you have read the comic books. I love the music and the characters. Exellent animation!

Provoking and imaginative, the main characters and storyline of X-1999 are appealing. Unfortunately, several of the minor characters and concepts employed in the storyline are silly. Although it is complex and original, it is not especially powerful, and the quality of animation is only above-average. This would be my second favorite title.

A masterpiece, in almost all aspects. Excellent animation, unearthly music which perfectly suits the atmosphere, dramatic and mature plot, and emotional sensitivity. What more can you get ? Even though it can be considered TOO depressing, it still has to be given credit.

Having read a fair amout of the manga, and after seeing the music video, I have to say that I was a little dissapointed. It was OK, but too much had to be cut from the storyline to fit it into a movie time slot. The animation was very good. I would definately recommend X to someone who has not read the manga, otherwise, watch where you set your standards because you might be dissappointed too.

All I got to say is X rules the world. Kamui is one of the
greatest and probably one of the strongest characters I have ever seen besides the god Sepiroth(FFVII). Hail Kamui!!!!!!!

The animation was almost the most beautiful I have ever seen! The storyline was wonderful although forced to go much quicker than the manga. Ultimately the most depressing anime I had ever seen, considering how everyone pretty much reaches a brutal and sad end! Soundtrack is great too, with very mysterious and alluring music. Movie was very full of symbolism and very intelligent. This is one of my fave movies of all time.

This is my favorite anime movie! The plot is complicated but, still easy to follow, you can tell CLAMP made sure they had a hand in this one. The only thing I have to say is that the manga is even better (japanese version only, the Viz version scares me.)

CLAMP has done it again. The animation quality was good and unique as in how they made everything dark but still detailed everything in it. (Kotori did look much cuter in the manga version though) The storyline is good despite the fact they had to cut down 10 manga volumes to a 95 minute movie. The depressing ending really got to me for a few days. It started getting depressing even half an hour before the movie ended, or just stomach gutting (lots of blood, usual CLAMP style). And then the song Forever Love... I wish that X-Japan didn't break up... but they will get together in year 2000 as rumoured. All in all I have to give this movie a 10, it truly touched me.
