I liked the first chapter, but I can't say this is a great series. The characters are boring -- I have seen eighteen different characters in other anime series that are EXACTLY like Umi.

This anime resembles Slayers in that it involves an RPG-like setting, but Slayers have far more interesting characters.. and besides, Slayers is actually funny.

It also reminds me of Escaflowne -- knights, a mystery land and uniquely designed mechas -- but is FAR inferior to Escaflowne, which actually makes you think beyond the juvenile excitement of the anime itself and about the real life's deeper topics.

The only thing I liked about this anime (and I liked VERY much) was how the plot picked up the pace towards the end and into the ironic conclusion. I have to admit that it kept me on my toes for most of the last 5-6 episodes -- something I thought no other anime would do to me after watching the end of Slayers Next. And I really liked the ending theme.

MKR is a good series, but it only gets a 9 because of the fact that Fuu needs more airtime! :)

I love rayearth, the characters are really funny along with the with the story.
they really did a great job. And I think the Magic is sweat! And including the character Eagle.

..I have the feeling that my last message didn't post right >< Anyway, continuing my review, the rather low animation quality of the first few episodes sort of detracted, as well as the simplistic nature of the story at that point, but the series grew on me and by the time I reached tape 3, I was hooked. (Besides, 20 bucks a tape subbed or dubbed, four eps a tape, that's damn cheap as far as commercial anime goes..)I love Fuu! She's just cool, I admire her level-headedness as Umi is freaking out. And the SD doesn't bother me that much, at any rate, it decreases significantly as the series goes on. Mokona is...odd. The romance isn't dominating and overdrawn (like in Sailormoon or, at times, Fushigi Yuugi) which is a big plus in my book. Better that the show focuses more on the power of friendship. The fact that they have to keep explaining the plot every episode gets annoying, although I guess when it was showing on TV that wasn't as much of an issue..and I do really enjoy the Evil CLAMP Plot Twist Ending for the first season. Reccomended, although not what I'd call the absolute best series in the world, it's worth a look.

although i haven't seen much Anime i still loved Rayearth. it was funny at times, sad at times, and totaly unexpected at other times but all around it was wonderful and i really enjoied it and i can't waite to see more.

All I gotta say is Nova is the definative anime psycho bitch from hell. I love the counterpoint of the whole show in the first season. It's loaded to the brim with nauseating girlie female bonding, while at the same time it's filled to the brim with insane sword action sequences, and quality RPG parody. The first season ends, and the joke's on you. The second season begins, and now the real fun starts. Jumping from place to place cultre to cultre and character to character is a crazy fun ride, especialy when you considder the social commentary (Autozam=America, Chizeta=India/mid-east Farhen=China) After seeing the episode where Umi battles tatra and tarta I can tell you where they prbably got the inspiration for 90% of Utena. Anyway one final thing. The magic knights look ok in their school outfits, better in their final level magic knight armor, but THE BEST when their dressed in their respective coutries garb, I want more of Umi in Chizeta wardrobe, dammit.

Sort of overated but never less is a good
anime. Even though I absolutly LOVE Eagle
I'm not going to give this anime a 10.
(even though I really am tempted to.)
I, personally liked the manga better. Eagle
doesn't die in it for one and #2 it has more
of a plot.

I thought the first series was "Great" but
I didn't really like the second one so much though.

It's so girlie
It's so action-packed
It's so unlike other magical girl series, because it has lots of blood.
It's got Nova, Anime's definative psycho-bitch-from-hell.

I really like this series.

And I agree with the last person who voted. More Umi in Chizeta garb.

Magic Knight Rayearth is definitly one of CLAMP's best. The animation is beautiful, CLAMP did a really good job drawing this. The plot is very unique, the characters really go well together. The songs are great, and it's easy to understand the lyrics. HOLD OOOONNN TOOO THAT DRREEAA........eh.... I'll stop singing now(sweat drops). The humor is good, and it's so cute the way they go SD all the time. Overall this show is sooo fantastic (it is CLAMP after all ).
