Toshiba SD-2008
One of the best pictures I have seen from DVD. The black level adjustment is great! The sound is awesome! The remote control is O.K., but very good compared to other manufacturer's models in the same price range. Some models suffer from audio dropouts when using the digital output. If you do get a problem model, Toshiba will have you ship the unit to their factory service center and repair it for free. The SD-2008 can be purchased for less than $300 and (if you can get a model without the audio problems) it is well worth it!

It does have great audio and video, however I do have the audio dropout as well
when using the AC3 through a seperate decoder. What a shame that I will have to return for repair! If I had it to do over I would get the Panasonic A110.

Perfect for my needs. I have a simple Pro-Logic system so there is no need for DTS. I have an S-Video input on my TV. It's all I need and so far -- It has played everything perfectly. I've had it for a little more than one month. No audio dropouts. I've never seen a delay in the layer switching. I'm very happy with the unit and got it for a great price -- $279!

After seeing a number of DVD players (Marantz, Panasonic, Creative, etc.), I have to say this is a very good DVD player for the price. It lacks in some features (DTS compatibility and component out come to mind), but what it does it does well. Given the ridiculously low price of this unit (in December 800.com had it for $300 with $50 in movies from 800.com and free shipping, in addition to the 5 free movies that come with the player itself), this could very well be one of the 2 players that kills DiVX (the A110 is the other). For families looking to just enter DVD, rather than invest in a whole home-theater setup, this is an excellent player, but if you already have an HT setup, or are planning to get one, spend the extra $100 and get the Panasonic A110 (or 120).

I bought mine in early December at Sam's Club for $169.00 . It's performed great. No problems with picture or sound ( I am using analog sound and SVHS for video). My best bang for the buck item this year.
