Bubblegum Crisis OAV
This is an incredible anime that works on all levels. It is entertaining but intelligent at once. While there are some plot holes and unanswered questions, I think it's better with them. Admit it, people: If we knew Sylia was a human or Boomer, would we love her as much? If we knew Priss had been in love with Sylvie or was just her good friend, would there be the same tension during Sylvie's death scene? If we knew the root of Mason's intense fascination with Sylia, would there be so much contemplation based around that? The unanswered questions, accidents or not, make the series better than it would have been. The only problem I have is that it ended with a TERRIBLE episode. I like the rest of it, though.

Bubblegum Crisis OAV
This anime (it's not a movie) does not stink. It's much better than a lot of the stupid romantic comedy/shoujo anime that are so popular. There are some great characters, great music, great art, and a hell of a cool villain. The only problem is that a few of the characters were *really* underdeveloped and boring. Some like Sylia and Vision were done much better, though. I can't wait to see the new TV series, even if everyone else thinks it looks terrible. I can't get enough of BGC.

A ten! Why? Because alone the original series would have waranted an eight, but with this new series (three weeks into airing!) kicking all sorts of ass in every way already, the score deserves to be perfect! Sylia even punches through a computer monitor, people! And Linna gets some attention! You've gotta love BGC!

I'm not much for the original, but the new one is so good that it makes up for most of the original's shortcomings. I also adore Sylia's new design. Cute *and* sexy? Who'd have thought..?

>This movie stinks! If I hear one more word about it I'm gonna FLIP!

This moron has obviously not seen BGC. Why do I say this? BECAUSE IT IS NOT A MOVIE. It is a series of eight OVAs, but not a movie. Anyone who makes a statement like the above one is just trying to be annoying.

The new TV series is NOTHING compared to the original series, IMHO. You gotta love the classics. The new show is just another one of AIC's cheap re-toolings. Even if I could get over my hatred of them for ruining one great series after another for the sake of the almighty dollar, I just can't forgive them for changing the character designs, which were cool and original. Instead, we see the designs from El Hazard used yet AGAIN, I mean, Sylia herself is a shameless and obvious rip-off of Ifurita (her design, that is; they've changed her personality to make her a whiney little so-and-so). The other designs aren't quite so infuriating, but they're still dissapointing. This OAV, however, reminds on of the Japanese Animation "greats" and deserves to be re-watched many times.

Bubblegum Crisis OAV
The person insulting the TV series apparently hasn't seen a single damn episode of it.

All I really have to say about the original series is that it's a classic. Not perfect, but tons of fun to watch. Mecha fights, music, pretty girls, great animation, and lots more. This is definitely a "something for everyone" series, probably my favorite of AIC's efforts. Problems? Some annoying repetition, erratic shifts personalities, and a total lack of closure for the overall story and characters. I want to know what became of Sylia, Priss, Linna, and Nene! And what of Largo? BGCrash! didn't answer those questions for me. I'm hoping the new series will shed a little light on how things may have gone.

Overall, highly recommend to anyone with good taste in anime. To the rest of you, you don't know what you're missing.

Bubblegum Crisis OAV
This was the first anime I saw.

To say the least I was hooked! After seeing a friends tape, I ran to the store and bought all 8 right away. The music, the animation, the story, the artwork all hooked me right away, I became a major otaku (owning nearly 300 some tapes at the present, and buying 1-3 a week.)

I love Sonoda's character designs. AND Largo is definately one of the coolest villans ever, I want his suit!

And as for BGC2040... I've seen ep6 raw Japanese. It's cool! From what I saw and what I understood, it was very cool. Cmon, Nene uses Compaq computers (lots of em) and you can easily make out the Win98J os on her comp! It was great!

"Do you think you can become a god?"
"That all depends on humanity."

BGC was the anime to introduce the mysterious beauty, the rebellious hothead, the adorable technophile, and the "everyman" character. All those other anime are just copying BGC! Rei Ayanami is NOTHING compared to Sylia! April is just a wannabe Priss! ALL HAIL SUZUKI'S DIVINE CREATION! And the TV series is pretty cool too.

Bubblegum Crisis OAV
The first time I saw this series, back in 1989, on the shelf at the books Nippon booth at the San Diego Comicon, I was INTRIGUED. The art looked plenty cool...then I saw a picture of the Motoslave. That was it. I "HAD" to see this show. Unfortunately, it wasn't translated untill '92. I did aquire the tapes as soon as they came out and you know what....the show was BETTER than I expected. While the animation in the first few episodes was uneven (great in some spots and poor in others) it stabilized by the 4th episode. The plot built from episode to episode, building on events from previous episodes...culminating in episodes 5 and 6...which I consider the two greatest "Episodes" in anime history. The only reason I don't give this show a "10" is because 10 is reserved for my all time favorite anime...Dangaio...but BGC is well deserving on one.

Bubblegum Crisis OAV
This was one of the first anime series I watched six years ago when I first started getting into anime. It was looking pretty good to me at the time (especially considering that I had only seen "Harmegeddon" and "Crystal Triangle") but now that I've seen sooooooo many titles over the years this series is extremely outdated and doesn't look half as good as some of the other titles which have come into production. And it doesn't all have to do with just the year an anime has been produced. From the way I see it, anime that transcends time has at least two factors; memorable characters and excellent art/animation (i.e. films such as "Akira" and "Wings of Honnemise"). BGC had potential to be a transcending classic, but just didn't make it... The music was cool, and most of the characters were interesting and well developed. However, what this OAV series needed was a bigger budget in the animation production department. The animation in the first two episodes was terrible! And, although it improved throughout the series, it still just didn't make the buck. Even some of the storylines were just painfully melo-dramatic (i.e. the situation with Priss and her vampire friend). I give it a '4' because I enjoyed most of the music, some of the animation, and most of the characters. But you won't find it in my collection. But you will in a BGC fan's. So it all depends on your taste. But there is so much more out there that is really better than this series, so it's not really worth the time.

Bubblegum Crisis OAV
The Bubblegum Crisis Tv series (BGC Tokyo:2040) is actually pretty damn good! I saw the first two episodes shortly after they aired in Japan (I got it like that) and well, I wasn't sure what to think at first. The designs were good. The animation was decent (while not Escaflowne good, they were still pretty good) but I wasn't sure about the characters.
Now that the tapes are being released here in the states, and I've seen beyond the second episode (I've seen up to episode-5) I'd say that the series works. The characters personalities are starting to become very distinct. Both Linna and Nene's characters are very likeable. Priss is a bitch (as she should be) and I don't know WTF is wrong with Sylia (She has MAJOR psychological problems, stemming from her mom and Dad's relationship in addition to her fathers death and her hatred of boomers/love of her fathers legacy. VERY COMPLEX CHARACTER)
While I didn't initially like the new Leon (I still hate his character design) he is actually turning out to be quite the studmuffin. The new Daily is also very cool (I DO like his new design) but its still unclear whether or not this particular incarnation of Daily is Gay or Straight or WHAT. (the original Daily was OBVIOUSLY Gay. He kept hitting on Leon and all..)]
The action scenes in the new BGC are getting better and better. There was an episode (episode-4 i believe) where its the ADP vs the Knight Sabers! Very cool stuff! So, even if you aren't groovy with the new visual direction they aree taking, give it a shot (I'd say to episode 8 or so) you may find that you like it, despite your initial hang-ups.

Bubblegum Crisis OAV
I oughta give a separate rating for each OAV because while I liked some, I was MUCH less than enthusiastic about others.

But the 8th one -- Scoop Chase -- was GREAT. Maybe I like it because there's so much Nene. It was funny. OAVs 5 and 6 were good, with intense action and nice character development for Priss.

I LOVE Sylia and Nene -- probably two of the more interesting characters I've enountered. All in all the four characters balance out just right in terms of personality.
