Sony STR-DE925
I find it an excellent receiver for the price offered.....$454 at Computability. I find little bleeding in the rear channels, and the soundfields sound great with the respective football or baseball games. You cannot do better for the money value, but the overall quality gets a 9. The remote is nice, looks like a cell phone when opened. I always just look at the remote readings instead of the receiver, it's that easy to use. I don't have much to compare this receiver to, but running it with a Panasonic 310, I find it to be good enough for me. If DTS ever takes off with music or movies, I'm all set. The receiver picks up the incoming signal, so you don't have to change much. Whatever speakers you run are gonna be compatible with the 925 because of the different optinonal soundfields offered with the Sony925. I see myself using this receiver for years down the road becuase of the DTS option and the alreadt incredible Dolby Digital.

I just got one, and will provide a more in-depth review at a later time. First impression is quite favorable, however. The STR-DE925 DOES have a phono input, buy the way.

Sony STR-DE925
for the price there is nothing else that comes close--DTS and DD5.1 for under $500 is hard to beat. So far works great although I had to return the first one I brought home--would not decode digital signals. First of its kind for me so I don't have a real absis for comparison other than value and it sounds great in my house.

Sony STR-DE925
This is one great receiver!

I had no problems with audio quality and was unable to discern any distortion or clipping. This unit is preferred over the ES series primarily due to DTS capabilities (Some ES players do have DTS..) and price. It is an excellent unit for end users with smaller budgets that still want the features of a top-of-the-line receiver. The soundfields are excellent and even the virtual surround modes are great. The tweaking for the surround modes is excellent and will adjust the cinema fields based on speaker distances. I also prefer the remote over the ES series touchpad.

This unit deserves a '10' for the price/performance ratio alone. However, I give the unit a '9' due to it's lack of S-video connections.

Just bought this receiver and first impressions are excellent. The Sony looks great, has a great remote, and I was very satisfied with the many demos of heard of this model. I may miss S-Video, but Sony sells an S-Video switch box for $50 so I guess that's an even trade to get built-in DTS.

After I do some more thorough testing (when my wife's away so I can really crank the dial) then I'll give a rated review.
One note - I personally think looks are important. If you're like me, you'll listen to this reciever almost all the time when you watch TV, but you'll always see it. I thought about buying a higher-end receiver and tested some, and the sound quality may have been a bit better with the higher-end models - but not significantly in my opinion. The Sony receiver is the whole package. It's got more than adequate specs - plus it looks great!

Sony STR-DE925
i am about to buy this reciver because it fits my price range but why does everyone complain about the lack of s video input..maybe i don't know enough about home theather but who cares if you route video signals through you receiver. i will be using dvd component inputs straight to tv and using dolby digital from the dvd to the receiver. this is the most logically setup i assume.
why the s-vhs need through receiver? is this receiver the best i can have for under 600 bucks..that's my limit. the tv and dvd ate alot of dough up

There are various ways to route AV. The most common/convenient way is the receiver. Through the receiver, switching between AV sources is a 1 step process.

You can route through the TV, but most TVs don't have too many video inputs, and it still involves a 2 step process to switch between 2 different AV sources (one to switch the TV, the other to switch the Audio [unless you go through the TV's built in speakers..]).

VCRs used to be a common method to route AV signals...Unfortunately, Macrovision screws this all up. And most (all?) vcrs don't support DTS/DD digital input...

I debated purchasing a lower end Sony and am VERY glad I went with the 925!
Excellent sound...blew my Sony STR-565 Dolby ProLogic away!
I purchased in local store for $479 (After a much haggling...their price was $599!)
Sony hs put a lot of nice features into this. Programmable labels for functions is great. The 3 Optical inputs are a big plus. My Sony 5 Disk CD changer has the optical output, plus DVD and DSS in the future. Optical out will be great in the future if CD recordables become mainstream.

The remote has a lot a features, but not laid out as well as I would like.
I have the Marantz RC2000 remote and am having problems programming many of the functions from the Sony remote (It worked fine with my old Sony receiver.)

The sound fields and customization abilities are GREAT. Sony gets a big 10+ from me on this reciever.

I have not had any of the problems that some people have reported.

I bought this reciever out of stock (told it would be in in about a week). Went back to the store a week later and was told I'd have to wait about a month. I got my money back right away. Why do stores have sales on products they don't have?!?

I'm 99% convinced on the Onkyo 656. The sony looked like the best in my price range - but they need to keep their products in stock. I wonder how many other people have switched because of this.

SOMEONE, PLEASE HELP! I have big dilemma.I have decide to buy AV Receiver.
Right now, I`m deceiding between the Yamaha RX-V795 and the Sony STR-DB925.
I can find them both for about the same amount of money.
I haven`t listened RX-V795 neither STR-DB925, but I read a lot.I think that
Sony`s advantages is:
-multichannel parametric equaliser
-parameters for the position and relative height of the speakers and other
useful settings to get the sound just right (wall type,....)
I don`t know how those AV Receivers sounds in stereo mode (Hi-Fi) without
center and rear speakers. This is also important because I want use AV
Receiver in this mode.I love SOFT and CLEAR sound.Who`s the best in this
field, Sony or Yamaha?

P.S.I think that Sony gives more than Yamaha.Which speakers are
better for me ,Jamo series "classic" or B&W series "600"?

Please e-mail me at krako69@hotmail.com

Sony STR-DE925
Very Very good Receiver the sound is clean and sharp. The only thing im angry about is that the store I got the receiver from ripped me off on the manual and the remote control. Besides that the receiver has no distortion and has many good features like the S-link deal. Features lacking on this receiver is on screen menus and a setup menu.

Sony STR-DE925
I previously owned a sony 915 when I decided to step up to dvd and a ac-3 dts ready reciever. I purchased the str-de925 and was extremely happy for about three days. I am running Jbl G-400 fronts , bose center and rears and a jbl powered 10in sub. I am continously having problems with turning the reciever on and no having any sound at all in tuner, dvd, video 1, 2 , or 3. I returned the unit and was given a new one and now eight months later the problem has happened again. The unit is in an open entertainment center that has an amp fan to ensure adequte cooling. What is going on? Two units same problem. When the unit works I am happy with it, but when it doesn't I am disappointed.
