The price/specs ratio was definitely right when I bought it. Just recently, however, the rear surround channel stopped working. I have no idea what the problem might be. The unit heats up a lot. I could fry eggs on top of it...

Sony STR-DE925
AWESOME reciever, I dont understand why somebody would say not much coming out ot the rear speakers because you can easily + them up. However only reason I didnt get it a 10 was because for me I needed more watts per channel. I have a large room and I blew the reciever twice already. I do not reccomand it for a large room. Overall, GREAT! (also, DTS, WOW!)

Sony STR-DE925
I purchased this unit when it first came out and am satisfied with its performance. I had to call the store I purchased it from when I got it home because the digital light would not go on and for two days I thought the unit was working in DD 5:1 when it wasn't. It turned out that some DVD's have to be set up on the main menu to process the 5:1 DD signal which I did not know at the time. As soon as I used the setup to select the 5:1 signal the blue light went on and I could hear the difference right away.

Also my DVD player has a button on the remote for audio which if pressed will go through the various audio selections availible for a given DVD.

I gave up trying to program the remote on the Sony receiver, too much trouble, I just use it for the volume control.

Sony STR-DE925
The sound and features of this unit are good value for the price. However the problem of turning it on and getting no sound is about to drive me nuts. The unit is going back for the third (and last) time. If they can't fix it I'm upgrading to Denon

Sony STR-DE925
I previously owned a sony 915 when I decided to step up to dvd and a ac-3 dts ready reciever. I purchased the str-de925 and was extremely happy for about three days. I am running Jbl G-400 fronts , bose center and rears and a jbl powered 10in sub. I am continously having problems with turning the reciever on and no having any sound at all in tuner, dvd, video 1, 2 , or 3. I returned the unit and was given a new one and now eight months later the problem has happened again. The unit is in an open entertainment center that has an amp fan to ensure adequte cooling. What is going on? Two units same problem. When the unit works I am happy with it, but when it doesn't I am disappointed.

Sony STR-DE925
Very Very good Receiver the sound is clean and sharp. The only thing im angry about is that the store I got the receiver from ripped me off on the manual and the remote control. Besides that the receiver has no distortion and has many good features like the S-link deal. Features lacking on this receiver is on screen menus and a setup menu.

I had this 925 receive an sold it since I could not live with out S-Video In's and Outs. The new Sony STR-DE935 coming out in July 1999 has this for $100 less than the 925!

Sony STR-DE925
I debated purchasing a lower end Sony and am VERY glad I went with the 925!
Excellent sound...blew my Sony STR-565 Dolby ProLogic away!
I purchased in local store for $479 (After a much haggling...their price was $599!)
Sony hs put a lot of nice features into this. Programmable labels for functions is great. The 3 Optical inputs are a big plus. My Sony 5 Disk CD changer has the optical output, plus DVD and DSS in the future. Optical out will be great in the future if CD recordables become mainstream.

The remote has a lot a features, but not laid out as well as I would like.
I have the Marantz RC2000 remote and am having problems programming many of the functions from the Sony remote (It worked fine with my old Sony receiver.)

The sound fields and customization abilities are GREAT. Sony gets a big 10+ from me on this reciever.

I have not had any of the problems that some people have reported.
