Yamaha DSP A-1
This amp is great for both music and movies. Heard an A/B comparison between this unit and denon 5600 and the Yamaha sounded much more full (more depth to the music). We had the 5600 but returned it after hearing the yamaha. Also had problems with Denon "overload" light showing up even at low volumes. The Yamaha has operated flawlessly. I'm not sure how the 5700 sounds, but it will definitely be more expensive than the A1 (and not necessarily better sounding). Yamaha reliability seems to be top notch. Five star rating for the DSP-A1.

Came from NAD seperates. Sound quality is as good if not better on audio CD's. Two small complaints, The remote is sub-par (should team up with the Marantz designers) and the manual could be easier to follow. Still deserves a 10 due to the price and the quality.

How does the Yamaha DSP-A1 compare with it's own DSP-A2, Denon's AVR-5700 THX, Marantz's SR-18, Pioneer's VSX-09TX Elite, and Sony's TA-E9000ES. I'm currently shopping for a receiver and I understand that the Yamaha is only an integrated amplifier which means I still have to shell out for a good tuner and the price would then be the same as the Denon 5700 which is about $2800.00. Same goes with the Sony lacking a power amplifier. So for under $3000.00 which is the best?

I only have one small complaint with the DSP-A1. It would be nice if the volume adjustment was displayed on the screen in incremental steps as an alternative to "volume up" "volume down". This would allow for reference adjustment without having to look at the front panel. A small issue but it would greatly add to the convenience of operation for those who listen at "reference" levels.

Yamaha DSP A-1
Still The King of Kings.
This integrated amp offers the most flexability for its main purpose. Home Theater.
It offers the best amps out of every receiver on the market. It has the most advanced and flexable processor and is ready for the future with 6 channel inputs.

The best thing about it is its new lower price. It can now be had for only $1850 brand new with a 2 year warranty !!!!

Nothing on the market at this price point can touch it.

Yamaha DSP A-1
After months of deliberation I finally went with the DSP-A1. The other
obvious contender was the Denon AVR 5700 but I went with Yamaha due to the
"sweeter sound" of the amp and the A1's two additional front effects
channels. I also got one heck of a deal from a mail order company and
got the amp for $1700!!! I'll leave it for you to figure out who the company
is. The A1 is feature rich and I've only begun to explore it's capabilities.
I've been using a Hafler DH-500 for my mains but it's currently switched
off in preference to the conservatively rated 110 watts RMS from the A1. In
fact, my speakers went into thermal shutdown at half volume and they are
rated to 200W RMS. At some point I plan on measuring the power cababilities
of this amp. The remote is awful! :) The reason I gave the A1 a 9 rather than
10 is due to its lack of component video switching capability which the 5700
does in fact have, but I felt that sound was more important than a small
increment of convenience. Wideband video op amps are very very inexpensive
should I desire the ability to switch component video or RGBHV in the future.

This product still remains to be one of the most highly regarded in the industry. It is time tested and proven technology that is both excellent in sound, features and flaxability
The best thing about the Yamaha DSP A1 is it can now be had for only $1699 or $1799 in Gold version. That is about $1000 off of retail. At this price point, no other receiver or entry level separates can come close in terms of overall performance or flexability.

I recently replaced my DSP A1 with the Denon 5700. I think the 5700 has a more detailed sound for both CDs and HT. The 7-channel doesn't make that much of a difference. I tested the 5700 in my home, on my system. It offered a wider sound stage compared to the Yamaha. And this was without any tone controls being adjusted. Most of the reviews here seem to be very money driven. As a caveat, let me say that how everyone likes sound is different. You cannot go wrong with either piece, but as far as future ready is concerned, Denon wins hands down. Also, better DACs and the best amps for an integrated component on the market.

Yamaha DSP A-1
I have a question about 96 kHz input on DSP-A1. Is there anybody who tried a DVD player with 24bit/96 kHz output such as the Pioneer DVD-717 and DVD-515, California Audio Labs CL20 and CL-25, Marantz DVD-890, Micromega Premium DVD 2 together with a Chesky 24/96 record. What will happen to my DSP-A1 if I connect to the digital input one of these DVD players. Can I see the 96 kHz sign on the A1's display ? I'm planning to buy a DVD player in the near future and I don't know is the 24bit/96 kHz digital output is important me or not. I have the A1 since this year January and I'm very satisfied with it, except the remote controller. I don't like the remote, because I can't reprogram all of the buttons.

Just replaced my Yamaha DSP-A1 with a Denon 5700. The yamaha is now a pooper, before it was the "BEST" (as in receivers not seperates). Now the Denon Whoops its @!#!@$#

I just got the gold DSP-A1 integrated amp and i could not be any happier. If anyone is contemplating on whether they should get the gold or the black... GET THE GOLD its the best looking unit out there. The DSP modes are fantastic. Outstanding audio quality. I can crank up the volume high and not get any distortion/clipping. Some people don't like the remote but i love it. Easy to use once you get used to it. Yamaha didn't leave anything out when they designed this unit. I take pride in owing this unit.
