Pioneer DV-414
Just purchased the DV-414 for 329.00 at local Best Buy. Unit had what I was looking for Component Video out, DTS capable, reads CDR's, and didn't have onboard AC3 which help keep the costs down. The alternative was a A110 however the A110 doesn't have component video out and seems to be bugger that the DV-414.

Plus for the DV-414 are as mentioned above plus it has a button that turns off all the lights on the front on the unit. Helps when playing in a dark room and you just want to keep your eyes on the screen and not have to worry about see tons of LED's. Manual is detailed and about 35 full pages. Slow motion works forward and reverse well. Unit as memory settings for up to 30 DVD's. Useful if you want to have the set remember certain settings for a particular movie (things like audio settings, picture settings, screen formats, etc).

Minus are of course the lousy remote control. Too many small buttons hard to feel around for the button you want without looking at it directly. Also as widely reported the fast forward and and reverse is a "slide show", not smoth like on the Sony's. But it's not that big a deal since most of the time your just watching the movie normally. I subtracted a point for the poor remote control and the poor fast forward quality but that debatable if these are not things that bother you. Most people end up getting a learning remote anyway so the remote for many people isn't a issue.

Great price. DTS compatible. Component video output.

I have a Toshiba 55' TV which I was very pleased with the picture I was receiving from DSS (Directv and USSB). However, since I hooked up the 414 to the colorstream input (i.e. component video), I have been shocked by how good the picture looks. Even my wife has commented on how good the picture is, and she usually doesn't care about this stuff. I had a couple of friends over last night (we watched Animal House) and they said the TV looked better than a picture tube. The only complaint I have is the small buttons on the remote, but for the price and the features, I definitely feel this is one of the best (if not the best) DVD players you can get for your money.

Finally the player I've been waiting for! Component video outputs, DTS and DD compatible, no onboard decoding. And all for only $350! The player works great. Only thing keeping it from being 10 is the scan. Forward is nice, backwards is weak. OVerall a great player!

I got the Pioneer DV414 last weekend from Bestbuy for $315. It was on sale for $350 and I got an addition 10% discount. It has exactly the highend features that I wanted. DTS, Component video, Dual laser pickup(can play CDR), capable of display 0IRE black. I did not have any problem with it so far, video and audio are better than my old laserdisk palyer.
I rated it a 10 considered it costs under $400.

I recently purchased a DV-414 from Best Buy for $350. The component color ("Colorstream")output gives truly awsome pictures on my Toshiba 50" TP50H60. Component color and the ability to output both DTS and Dolby Digital makes this the lowest priced player with these features. Buttons on the remote are too small and close together and fast forward and reverse are not as good as some other machines. But if you are into WATCHING movies as opposed to playing with the deck this is definitely the current bargain buy.

Of all the equipment I've bought as I built my small hometheater, this one has brought the most "joy". The entire family loves our new DVD Player, which we've had for just about a month now. The picture is great, the sound is great, it plays cd-r's, and the D/A converters do a hell of a job (much better than any prior cd player I've ever had). I would heartily recommend this unit to anyone (and in fact, I have, to everyone who asks me!)

Just installed last week several movies etc. ZERO problems.

Yes FWD RVRS etc ragged but no big deal...

Hooked to a SONY 50ES...

Remote recalls all the features, Memory feature nice, manual fairly detailed and at around 325 to 350 a good buy...

The picture and audio are superb. Very good audio volume. Only drawback is the menu seems to react slow(2-3 secs.). Price is outstanding at $379 plus 5 free DVD's at Best Buy.(also matched at Circuit City).

I have a chance to buy the 414 for $299.00, but I'm also looking at the Panasonic A110 and the Philips Magnavox815AT, which I already pre-paid $199.99 but haven't received it yet from CompUSA. Which one is better? I have the Yamaha 2095 which has the DTS decoder, so I don't need the dvd player to have one. Buzz me.

Neg: As noted in other reviews Scan ragged, You can induce a sound delay with multi chapter jumps but this is not a problem. Most likely a 50Es to DV414 timing problem like I have seen on other post. And you have to make it happen in normal use no problems.

Pos: Clean Cd music, Good Audio and Video performance. Yes DTS sounds better to me that straight DD...

Value/Performance at 10.... at 300-350 plus first DVD paid for, Best Buy 5 free movies and 13 rentals at my local Hollywood store ,1/2 mile, plus 13 free rentals on a rent one get one free from NetFlix for those DVDs not available at local video outlets..

Then the unit itself meets my needs in all areas and may in a couple years be moved to another room or given as a gift to another member of the family. As for the 5 free movies I will sell them or give them out as gifts

All in all this makes it AT THIS TIME one of the best values in HT on the market.

Just pickup up the unit along with new Yamaha RX-V995 receiver, a little early to vote on this unit.. The first DVD I viewed was Twister, the first 20 minutes of movie I noticed lip-sync problems. Is this a problem with the DVD or the player? I tried both optical and coax connections, made no difference.

I returned the 414 to the dealer, demonstrated the lipsync problem with Twister. We took a new DV-414 out of the box and it workred fine. I have had the replacement at home since 12/22 and it is working fine. Some other owners have also noticed lipsync problems(see www.digitaltheater.com forums).

The replacement DV-414, was working great, both picture and good audio from CD. Unfortunately, the unit broke after a week, it would no longer play DVDs or CDs, so I took it back. The dealer is out of stock, now I have a A110 to for a few weeks.

I just got it today for $299 + tax at a Sam's Club in Plano, TX. Last one they had, the floor model. No manuals, but it's a great price. I doubt you'll find another player with these features for under $300.

Got the DV414 from United Audio 3 weeks ago for $349.00 found out it was on sale at Circuit City for $299.00 .Had no problem with getting the difference back from U.A. Picture is great Sound is fantastic with my Sony STRD30ES receiver and total Boston Acoustics surround. The remote buttons are small and the fast forward and rev. are a slide show but for the price you can't go wrong.

Bought this unit from a Dallas BestBuy for $349 last week (I'm watching the papers for any sells, in case Circuit City brings back it's $299 price). Anyway, I'm completely satisifed with this player. It has all the features
I was looking for (mainly Dolby Digital and DTS output, component output), the
remote is good (although it took me a few days to memorize where the keys were), and the picture quality is excellent (as it should be). Overall, I'd say it's a great player at a great price!

All current Pioneer DVD players other than the Elite series have audio sync problems.....try watching Austin Powers one of the better examples
