A true classic up there with Fist of the North Star...Truly a first anime watchers opening title to the world of japanimation with GunBuster and Dangaioh way back when....Cant wait for the new movie!!!

LONG LIVE VAMPIRE HUNTER D!!! Yes! I'm an expert on anime, owning more than 60 titles, drawing them, and even creating my own anime style comic book, and this freakin' movie is the BOMB!!!!Oh yeah, this movies hot. People who don't like VHD can go @#*&! themsevles cuz' this title got lastin' power. I thank you all out there wo support my all time favorite anime, VHD, and as long as we keep VHD in power it will reign forever.HAHAHAHAH!!!.....

I thought the animation was preety good for a pretty old anime.Storyline was above average.Characters were pretty good,d was very tight.It was not funny though,it made me know that an old anime can have such good animation.

I have seen the R version, edited for TV version, and the si-fi channel version. As a vampire fan, I love Vampire Hunter D. I own the R version and watch it at least once a week. However the movie is a victim of sever cutting.

This movie was my introduction to Anime. I saw the hacked version avilable on US television yet I loved it from the first moment. I did not even realize that I had stayed up half the night to watch it. Simply amazing.

Vampire Hunter D....long been one of the definitive Animae flicks of our time. Amazing animation, a far cry fom that "bubblegum"animation so many of us have become used to with such atrocities as "Sailor Moon" and "Ranma 1/2". Elements of romance, horror, mystery, action and at times comedy are blended seamlessly to weave a tale of absolute genius. Superb voice acting, dubbing was much better than I expected. And, what i have to say is the main difference between "D" and many other Animae films is the fact that the characters are wonderfully thought out, and well rounded. Who could ask for more in an Animae? or in any other movie for that matter.

VHD is a good, solid classic. This movie would be worthy of a better rating if it weren't for two things: First, the Doris character is reduced to a completely passive, powerless, helpless, sex object. She's just a big blonde block of cheese being dominated and manipulated in various compromising positions, some of which are literal, blatant sexual acts. Too bad the movie revolves around her. Second, 'D' is cool, but he's the same old wandering, mysterious stranger who is called upon to save the town from evil. Nothing original here, just scary monsters and adventure.

VHD is THE anime movie! Hell, its THE movie! Anybody who says otherwise needs to get a life and stop moaning about the slightest bit of gore. The animation was pretty good, AWESOME storyline, very good characters. I've seen a ton of anime so I know what I'm talking about too. I'd recommend this movie to ANYBODY and EVERYBODY!

Nice concept, poor execution; they should have done a better job on the animation. Somewhat interesting story/characters. I couldn't help but finishing the movie, even though I didn't really care for it. Makes an excellent "B-movie" for "Mystery Science Theatre 3000", or something of the sort.

one of the most darkly seductive animes i've ever seen. great storyline and characters (though doris could get annoying at times). the somewhat jerky animation added nicely to the overall disjointed feeling, and D is definitely the sexiest male characters ever.
