Pioneer DV-414
I had one for 2 months. Picture quality was great but the lip sync problem was really bugging me. I started noticing it on several other discs besides Austin Powers. The menu interface was pretty crappy.

Remote key layout is crappy too.

I replaced it with a toshiba 2109 and have been much happier.

I bought the 414 back in December and up until now have been very happy. BUT I just purchased "Uncle Buck" and the lip-sync problem is horrible!!!! All my other disc use the coaxial output, but this one is only in 2.0 and goes thru thr analog cables. I have had no problem with the 5.1 discs. Has Pioneer been able to correct this problem for anyone, or is a new player the only way?

I am very pleased with this player. I seems to have a much better picture then my old player (a 1st gen pioneer) and I have seen NO artifacting on the dozen or so movies I have watched on it.

I bought this unit as my first dvd player and I was happy. However, when watching Bulworth, the lip sync problem became apparent which bothered me. For the money, $359.00 it's a nice unit.

The A/V quality is excellent....

Haven't really noticed the dreaded "lip-sync" problem...

Also, with DTS out, component out, and true 96/24, at a low price, this is difficult to beat!

Pioneer DV-414
Great Player for the money. Aside from the normal feature of DTS/Component/etc, it also can decode 24/96 disks as well as pass this signal in the digital domain without downconverting. It's the only player in this price range that does so. A great steel at $350-$400.

Pioneer DV-414
Excellent picture and sound for the latest model of DV-414 (manufactured after Feb 99). It outputs true 96/24 information through its digital output without jittering problem. Best value for a solid performer if you do not need a Dolby DIgital decoder built-in to the player. Scanning (FF and Rev) can be improved.

I find this player to be a great value. The picture and sound are excellent. I have not experienced any lip sync problems but the remote can be a little annoying.

Pioneer DV-414
One of the few players that output true 96 kHz 24-bit PCM digital signal. I hooked the Pioneer to my Sony 9000ES (with 96/24 D/A playback), and the result is superb. The clarity and resolution of 96/24 DVD (Chesky makes a lot of good DVD) beats 44/16 CD by a big margin.

I am disappointed that not a lot of manufacturers are making DVD players with 96/24 digital output. Sony, Toshiba, Denon & Panasonic have good DVD players, but none of them can send out a true 96/24 PCM digital signal. The 10-bit video DAC of Pioneer is very good too. Given the price of the Pioneer 414 (around US$300), I can live with a bare bone remote control and harsh video scanning.

Just an excellent entry level player. My Wife and I have played about 30 discs on the Pioneer and it has performed almost flawlessly so far. The audio and video quality are first rate for a machine of this value and would make a fine addition to anyones H.T. system. The remote leaves alot to be desired the buttons are too small and spaced too close together. It would also be nice it the remote were backlit as most of us tend to watch DVD's in dimly lighted rooms and my eyes aren't getting any better the older I get.

Did not buy this player because I found a great deal on a Zenith dvd2200. In a side by side review the looked the same. On thing about thes two and the Philips DVDs is that they will recognize and play CDR audio disks that all of the others would not.

Pioneer DV-414
I['m delighted with the player. It has none of the lip synch problems I've heard about, and the picture and sound quality are breathtaking.

My only criticisms are minor niggles, such as the scan function not being as smooth as I like (or indeed, variable in speed). Also the lack of a screen saver mode when in pause for too long. Also slow tray speed when opening and closing.

As I said - minor!

Looks great for the price, especially via the component outputs. I bought three of the DV-414, and I have had no trouble out of any of them. I have one hooked to my Sony FV-1 36" WEGA TV, which also has performed great. I'm going to buy another player this week as a gift, and I'm going to have to stick with Pioneer since I've had such success with the ones I have. I'll go with the DV-525 since the DV-414 is discontinued. I haven't had any of the screen flicker problems that some say they have had, and I have LOTS of DVD's. Either it's not that prevalent of a problem or I got three great players!

Pioneer DV-414
I've owned my DV414 for about 18 months now. It is part of a very high end system. I had looked at several other players costing a lot more but simply could not justify paying a lot extra for a player that was only marginally better, if any, than the 414. We don't watch a lot of movies however when we do we "watch" the movie. All the added bells and whistles that you get for sometimes many more dollars are not required in our family. Hence, the 414 and the enjoyment it brings. Great player at a great price! And, it looks great mounted in with my other components. I agree with those comments made about the small buttons on the remote but that's not even a bother for me. Usually I may pause the movie to make a pit stop etc. but I know where the button is to do that, so no big deal. As for the fast forward scan, mine seems to work just fine and I have experienced no problem areas overall with this player.
