Sailor Moon is a cool anime! The plot can get boring, but it gets interesting after a little while. This is one of the coolest anime I've ever watched. And the comic books aren't bad neither. (I've only read two) =)

I'm ashamed at you peepz who voted below a 5. I've seen Tenchi Muyo and it SUCKS!! Sailor Moon is da bomb!!! DBZ, Ronin Warriors, and all those others are cool with me too. I adore this anime simply because of the story line. Everyone always says that it's the same old plot as a fairytale, and therefore, isn't interesting. However, that's exactly the reason why I love it so much. It's an old fairytale with a modern twist that I'll never get tired of. Who could not love a classic love story (I just wish the anime followed the manga a little bit more)?

Before I go on, first a note to our innocent idiot who said that the majority of the male Sailor Moon fans are perverts:

Anyhow, I will now go on to rate the one anime show that dominated my life for the longest time. I'll try to be objective. Hope this can be a guideline for new viewers.

CHARACTERS (33%): Well, not a lot of interesting characters, taht's for sure. Usagi is your boring schoolgirl superhero who can't get a grip on her studies. Not a whole hell of character development. This is a kiddie show, so it is expected. But from a general anime point of view, this part gets a 3, but I'll give it a 4 because I like the girls and some great villains.

PLOTS (33%): Well, the plots in S and Stars are good. S has a lot of nice plot developments and turnarounds. The latter part of R is also pretty good, if not unique. This is a show that you can't understand unless you watch a lot of episodes in a row.

In other parts, such as the S Movie, the plot was an atrocious makeshift piece of crap. And the themes are too simplistic in comparison to the truly great animes. Overall, I give it a high 6 because the plots are complex enough although it is a kiddie show.

VOICE ACTING (17%): Sailor Moon Project was one of the biggest in the 90s anime industry, and it managed to employ almost every big-name seiyuus in all of Japan. Mitsuishi Kotono (Usagi) did a hell of a job, and Ogata Megumi (Sailor Uranus) once again proved her greatness in this series. I give it a 9 here.

MUSIC (17%): I think people watch Sailor Moon because of its music. Probably one of the best anime projects as far as songs and BGMs are concerned. I have not met one person that does not like Moon Revenge, and there are so many other great pieces used in Sailor Moon. A solid 10 here.

I give it a 6, overall. Note: this is the rating of the ORIGINAL series done in Japanese and available in subtitled form by fansubbers. The English-dubbed Sailor Moon, released by DiC, is a piece of crap that does not deserve a "4" rating.

Obviously a generic anime, although its footage is constantly recycled, one cannot deny the fun factor of this anime. The characters, although goofy, are nevertheless charming and fun to watch. A decent series that one can't help but enjoy despite its limitations.

I'd like to believe that I'm not particularly any more perverted than the rest of the SM fans (hint: in this case SM stands for Sailor Moon, not something else which describes some people's sexual lifestyle) or other males on this planet, but if you accuse us of being perverts -- which you obviously think we are -- fine. As for my comment and the rating on the show, it is true that Sailor Moon dominated my life for a long long time. I am an anime fan and I watch a lot of different type of animes, be it Sailor Moon, Neon Genesis Evangelion or La Blue Girl. But Sailor Moon is one of the vert first animes I experienced, and it did dominate my life for some time. Sure, the characters were cute, but let me make sure to tell you that I didn't spend a lot of nights masturbating while thinking of Sailor Venus' nude body.

And then I started watching other animes, some of them a LOT better than Sailor Moon. Most of the animes I rated in this site actually got better scores from me than Sailor Moon. So there -- I hope I answered your little inquiry about the comment.

There's nothing more irritating than people who have strong opinions on matters they know little about. If you're here to knock people down and bash the show but can't take a simple one-liner, that's laughable. Of course, if you're an American the First Amendment guarantees your right the to hurl insults, as well as mine. I give it an 8 b/c the animation is good but the characters don't progress to much, or not very fast I mean. They don't mature to much. But I DO like the characters, it is funny and the story line ROCKS. Even if it does take Darien and Serena to long to get together. (I'm a helpless romantic)

Well, I'm assuming if you've made it this far, you must have strong feelings about the show (positive or negative) or you are the most patient person alive. Everyone's slanted here, and so it's hard to get a real feel for the show from "It's the best"/CENSORED. If you happen to find this comment among the masses, please read it. I've been as honest and helpful as I know how to be.

I started out thinking SM was the worst show ever, when the entire world seemed to be watching it (well, all of North America anyhow -> DiC version). I gave it a chance one summer out of boredom, and it wasn't all bad. I still enjoy the first season (Queen Beryl et al), but after that it's all been done, and I especially don't like the fact that they freeze/reverse the character development after that (for instance, Usagi reverts to crybaby, just when I appreciated the fact that she'd overcome her ditziness). Still, there are some great moments in that first season: the episodes where Nephlyte dies, Zoicyte stabs Tux, retelling of the moon kingdom, etc. The plot does contain some hiccups, but these may be due to translation and editing. I personally didn't enjoy any part of the Ann-Alan saga (season 2), and season 3 lies in-between the other two for quality. Basically, if you don't like season 1, go no further (and even if you do like season 1, you might want to do the same). I haven't seen any of the movies, but I've heard good things about Sailor Moon R.

The only reason I'm still interested in this show is because
1) it was the first I saw, and got me hooked onto the genre
2) I've seen some really beautiful manga (comic book) pictures, which makes me think that the original manga form may be worth looking into/purchasing

If you want to compare your tastes with my own, I've also seen Ranma 1/2 (hilarious! 9/10), Evangelion (strange, I probably need to watch it again 6.5/10), El Hazard (excellent fantasy! 9/10), Princess Mononoke (cool 8.5/10), Here's Greenwood (7.5/10) among others...

For SM I would give season 1 8/10, season 2 4/10, and season 3 6.5/10... but, I'm a tough marker

Further comments: charming, but no great thought behind it. Some touching moments, but you really have to feel with the characters otherwise there's no depth to it. In fact, the only difference I see between those who love it and those who hate it, is the extent to which they've placed themselves inside a main character's role. A good intro to the lighter side of anime...
