Sony DVP-S7700

The finist and stylish DVD player w/ DD/DTS ever made by SONY.
Only available in Japan at this time. I got two while stayed in Tokyo on job
last month.

Will not be found at any store or mail order in US. Wait till December or January 1999.

Incredible sound machine and picture. It's too bad that no DVD movie decoded
w/ DTS avaible right now.

If you want it, better get it fast since the first few shipments will be limited
quantities.

a pure 10+

Sony DVP-S7700
How about giving a detailed review of it so those of us who are waiting for the region 1 version know what to expect. I'd particually like to know how the audio and video compare to the 7000.

Sony DVP-S7700
Finally got the MSRP on this unit - $1399.00. Seems a bit high even considering the build quality. You can buy a lot of DVDs for the difference in price.

Um, where did you hear $1399? Is that U.S. dollars? Everywhere I've heard, including from Sony say the SRP for the 7700 will be $999.

I have a friend who works for Sony Electronics and he told that was the price on the computer in their company store. Hopefully the price will go down, but that is current MSRP (not necessarily "street")price. Not sure how you got a price from your source at Sony because I've tried the customer service line (800-222-Sony) and they don't have a price or US release date yet.

Full specs are available at the Sony Canada website (WWW.Sony.ca). Not sure why it isn't on the US website yet. MSRP is currently 1499.00 Canadian. Some good discussion threads on this player can be found on WWW.dvdresource.com if anyone is interested.

Sony DVP-S7700
The unit is excellent... a worthy successor to the DVP-S7000. (The anamorphic downconversion seems to be improved over the S7000.) I can honestly find no flaws with the unit; it's as perfect as it gets. The picture is excellent. (The 3 adjustable levels of noise reduction actually works.) The user interface and advanced remote (as seen first on the DVP-S600D) are both excellent. The seek time is one of the fastest. (Puts the Panasonic mechanism to shame.) Is the picture significantly better than units half it's price? No. But it's an extremely solid, well-built unit.

I have not had the time to evaluate the unit as an audio CD player... (I've had some say the S7000 was better.)

The MSRP seems to be $1200 in the U.S. and retailers are receiving limited inventory right now. I wouldn't expect more than a $50 discount for many months... there are many early adopters that are waiting to buy this unit sight-unseen at full price.

Help! I've had my Sony DVD-7700 for a couple days and am extremely annoyed. The picture, apart from having a slightly more natural colour, is no better than my old Toshiba SD-2107 and SD-2108, in fact it's worse. I'm assuming I have a faulty player because when the image is fast moving it's brilliant, but when it slows down it looks like a first generation DVD player. The title credits from Air Force One and Austin Powers seem to weave slightly from side to side, like a film working it's way through an old movie projector. Also, if you watch actors faces in close up, patches of their skin come in and out of focus like a camcorder struggling on autofocus. If anyone out there has the player, I need your advice, or else I'm sending it back. I have tried playing with the DNR settings, but they make no difference. Other than that it's the most amazing piece of kit, ever.

Sony DVP-S7700
Purchased my 7700 from Nextav for 899 plus 50 bucks fed ex shipping...ordered on a Monday, received it Wednesday (from Hawaii to Chicago).
This is my first DVD player althou checked out many others. My only complaint right now is that I only receive 3 of the promised 5 free DVD from Netflex?
My opinion the video quality is stunning...the clearest, sharpest picture ever on my Toshiba 61 incher rear proj. TV.
The 3 DVDs disks works silently and flawless, no video or audio glitches.
Played with the 7700 for 3 weeks now and in my opinion the picture and audio quality is much higher then I expected...whether this is because of DVD technology or the 7700 or some combination of both I cant say...but I am very pleased so far with this unit.

got mine new years eve. am very impressed. everything works perfect. this is my first DVD PLAYER BUT I HAVE OWNED SEVERAL LASER DISC PLAYERS PANASONIC LX101 SONY MDP 455, SONY MDP750. THE PICTURE IS SUPERIOR ON THE 7700. I USED THE COMPONENT OUTPUT TO MY 32" GO0A PROGRESSIVE SCAN I PURCHASED AT THE SAME TIME. I HAVE RENTED /BOUGHT ABOUT 12 DVDS AND HAVE YET TO SEE ANY GLITCHES. AS FAR AS AN AUDIO ONLY PLAYER I JUST GOT RID OF MY TEAC VRDS 10. SONY SOUNDS MUCH BETTER. AM EXCEPTIONLY PLEASED WITH IT. PAID $1325.00 CANADIAN FOR IT.

One hell of a player. Beautiful picture and sound. Bought the player in Tokyo for about US$850. I am watching all my older DVDs again and am blown away with the new found clarity.

Definitely worth every penny!!
