A bit disappointing. Not horrendously bad, but not really great either.
It tries to be cover many bases, an action buddy flick, police psycho-
thriller, and cyberpunk, but just succeeds on diluting it all.

Appleseed-the-manga is incredibly fun and mind twisting to read. Appleseed-the-anime is increasingly boring, unimaginative, drab, and badly dubbed(thank you oh so much, Manga Video). Along with the incredibly bad English spelling, almost nothing of Shirow's original story really survives(not even in the sub, that's *really* bad). Deunan's now a stereotype, Briarious(not Buleraos) has an odd accent in the dub(and leads to some nasty bunny jokes), and the villians either don't get much screen time, or simply aren't imaginative. Even though this "looks cool" in the Manga promo video, simply avoid; your brain cells will thank you. So bad I actually used it for a Mystery Science Theater-style video project. Fans of the original manga will be horrified, all else will simply be bored.

This was okay. Not one of my favourites, but I'd say it was so-so.
I may be a little generous here, but I did enjoy it somewhat. It
could have been much better

Appleseed had heavy guns, Robotech like armor, and an awsome plot. The best part was the chase with A.J. Sebastion and Calon in their Police battle armor.

Masamune shirow created a work of art with the Manga and the Anime version destroyed it (at least for me) after the ESWAT assault on the terrorist (the very first part). When you have try to convert a success like Appleseed into Anime you should at least try harder.

Remember, this movie's kinda old.
The story is typical Masamune Shirow: what makes a person human?
Although the manga series was much better, the story kept me watching. The characters were fun (except that one boss woman). Story's a little confusing, especially during the action. Good nonetheless.

Appleseed, by Masamune Shirow.

If you liked the ideas about what it means to be human that were developed
in Ghost in the Shell (esp. in the manga), then you'll like this video.

Anti-terrorist cops with fighting mechs in a future post-apocalypse future city
in which over half of the citizens are genitically engineered beings. Cyborg
killer tries to take over a super-tank to take over the city. I liked it.

This anime was practically SCREAMING for Shirow to intervene in its production! It didn't look even close to the manga (my favorite of all time) and was one big disappointment when I saw it about 7 years ago.

Do yourself a favour. Save your money and a)read the manga or b)watch "Black Magic M-66" (again doesn't really resemble the manga but definitely more Shirow oriented than "Appleseed")

As an anime I thought that this was quite good. I have not yet read the Manga (although I should be getting hold of the start fairly soon). Many people have said that the anime was a compressed version of the Manga, and we all know that this rarely works well. But I liked it as is. I may not after reading the Manga and seen what was killed from the anime.

I was fairly disappointed by the movie versus the comic books. The books are and will be my favorie anime of all time. The movie TRIED to compress the whole story into one movie, it didn't work. They covred the first to books ok, and forgot about the last 2 (maybe three). I would recommend this as an anime if you haven't read the books (because of good mechs, old animation, but it hold up). Spend your money on the comics instead, much, MUCH better buy.

This is the worst anime I have ever seen in my whole entire life. The animation was okay but the story line sucked. It was so pathetic I was laughing even when it wasn't meant to be funny. It made me cover my face and say "oh my gosh" several times. I think I will just stick to the manga.

Garbage!!! Read the Manga version If I werre to rate the manga version I would give the manga version A 10!!!! but NO!! the stupid anime directors screwed up the characters, the colors, and the stroyline. What was a master peice is now garbage
