TeleVue Nagler Type 5 20mm
I loved both my 19mm & 24mm Panoptics but I sold both in order to buy this ep. Did I make a mistake? Hell no this is the best midpower ep I have ever viewed thru.In my 20" F/5 Obsession it is a match made in heaven. It is the baby brother of the termenagler and just as good.

Easy to manage for a 2" EP. Better corrected than a 24 Pan IMO. Comfortable to look through. Very sharp (as are all the type 5s)

I use this eyepiece in my 10" f/5 Portaball Newtonian. In this scope, the field is free of "seagulls" over nearly the entire field of view. As the previous reviewer noted, there is some chromatic aberration right at the field stop, as is typical in my T-6 Naglers (the 20 mm is the only T-5 I own). This is at the very edge, and is, IMO, no way intrusive. Pincushion distortion is evident when panning, but this is a necessary tradeoff for sharp stars in the outer part of the field. For those not needing glasses to correct for their eye’s astigmatism at the scope, the 12 mm of eye relief is very adequate. In fact, this eyepiece is quite comfortable to view through, and has minimal blackout issues. Contrast is excellent at 63 x in my scope, providing a 4 mm exit pupil. This has become my favorite eyepiece for large low surface brightness DSOs, dark nebulae, and open star clusters and star fields. Although a rather large eyepiece, it is not so massive as to be cumbersome, and should not present a serious balance issue for most scopes. As the previous reviewer noted, the large field lens is very close to the bottom of the eyepiece barrel, so be sure to put the dust caps on when not in use. Is it worth $400+? IMO, yes.

What a great eyepiece. With a Paracorr in my f/4.5 scope, stars sharp throughout about 98% of the field with the outer 2% affected more by chromatic issues than coma. In any case, it isn't bothersome for me at all. The views are truly first rate. Placing the moon's illuminated crescent just outside the field of view gives me the remainder of our closest celestial neighbor in nearly glare free Earthshine. Very nice.

A couple of items to note: the 12mm of eye relief may be tight for some. For me, I don't observe with glasses and am used to short focal length plossls so 12mm is a luxury in my book. Also, there is a lens element that very nearly protrudes from the bottom of the barrel. It doesn't of course and the eyepiece will easily take a filter, but it does require a bit of extra care when you need to set it aside during an observing session. I always snap the caps back on even if I know I'll be coming right back to that eyepiece very soon. At over 400 (well-spent) dollars, I'd like to avoid mistakes.
