If ever you needed proof that Shoji Kawamori was a genious, here it isa. A brilliant story that rivals that of top gun along with a killer soundtrack by Yoko Kanno, you have one execellent four part ova. I was a little suspicious aqt first but after the fisrt part, my fears were put to rest and i was amazed with the amount of character development took place. I felt that the whole relation between Isamu, Myung, and Guld, could have been a bit more in-depth but if it were, i hardly feel it woul;d have been as fascinating. Well, there you have it, if ever you want a solid mecha story with plenty of dramatic tension, humour, and story to keep it going, this is for you!

Macross Plus 1-4
In many ways, Macross Plus reflects the original Macross/Robotech TV series.

First, there are two plot lines which come together. The first one is more obvious and supplies the substance for most of the action/mecha: Two different fighter models are competing to be the new main fighter of the UN Spacy. The other deals with a pop star named Sharon Apple who has the uncanny ability to move people with her music. Sound familiar?

The animation is top-rate, however, I disliked the use of CG animation. Sure, when this OAV was produced, it was still a pretty new technology, but they should have simply left it out. The CG animation is blatantly obvious and looks terribly artificial next to the traditional animation.

The soundtrack follows in the tradition of Macross and is well done. It has everything from the melancholy theme song to the techno, ravish thumping beats of a fighter blasting through Earth's satellite defense network. Sharon Apple's own songs are actually a little odd and I can't say I like them too much. They're a little more sophisticated and less catchy than the 'ol Minmay songs. Still, they do have an alluring quality....

Overall, a great OAV. Just like the original Macross saga, there ARE slow spots which deal with character development. In the end, this flick is about interpersonal bonds and the struggle of man vs. technology.

A beautiful piece of animation. The character design is brilliant. Macross Plus has one of (, if not) the best anime soundtracks to date. The creatures in M.P. are original
(, that is unless they've been in anime that I have yet to see).
Macross Plus is incredible. A fantastic viewing experience. The lads can enjoy the great mecha, and us girls have the handsome Isamu to drool over (, however, we love the mecha and action sequences just as much as you boys/men). One thing I fail to understand is why Myung's singing career never took off as I feel that she is more attractive than Sharon Apple. Ok, so Sharon is different, she is a machine. That is fascinating so I can see the appeal. But, Myung is human and we can see and sense her emotions. Also, I would expect her to be more popular with the lads because she isn't a metal box. Well, I guess I'll never understand guys but I understand this, if you haven't yet seen Macross Plus and have no desire to do so then you must be criminally insane. A must see anime for all.

The production values were all very good,
but in the end it left me flat. I didn't
care what happened to the characters.

This is one of the best movies of any type I've ever scene. The animation was just beautiful. I only saw the dubbed series, so I can't comment on the other versions. Who was the jerk that stopped the rating scale at 10?

This was one of the first anime movies I saw, and nothing I have seen thus far quite compares. While I'm sure we all love action, it is rare for an animated film to evoke such pathos. It is very easy to lose yourself in this one.

This movie has excellent animation, wonderful and unique characters such as Sharon Apple, and just enough sad and funny parts. This is not your typical anime. Characters were drawn beautifully versus the cheap and simple ones that we usually see. *LINA*
