Description:The renowned, original Lumicon OIII narrow bandpass filter (11nm) isolates just the two doubly-ionized oxygen lines (496 and 501nm lines) emitted by planetary and emission nebulae, while blocking the rest of the overall spectrum of light. The result is extreme contrast between the black background of space and the delicate photons of OIII light needed for near-photographic views of the Veil, Ring, Dumbbell and Orion nebulae, among other objects. See for yourself -- it's truly amazing what the OIII filter allows you to see! Lumicon tests every filter individually on a Perkin-Elmer Double-Beam spectrophotometer, inscribing on the filter its % transmission for each of the primary lines.

Lumicon O-III
This is a "must have" filter for serious deep sky observers! The contrast that it provides on nebula is amazing. Objects such as M1, M27, M76, M57, etc. show amazing detail against darker backgrounds. Mine is a "cosmetic" stamped one which means the performance is slightly below standards, so I can just imagine what the non-blemished filters may provide.

Brings out detail in the Veil. Doesn't do much - at least with me - with Orion or Ring. Add to that, I'm not crazy that it turns all the stars a bit dimmer and purple. But then again, that's exactly why the O-III works in the first place. I guess you can't have it all. A bit over-priced in my book.

The filter makes visible the invisible, brings out details in the barely visible. Given dark, clear nights; lots of aperture; and a wonderful eyepiece ( like a Nagler 20mm Type 2 ) you'll get near photographic visuals of the Swan, Helix, Triffid, Lagoon, Veil and other nebulae. Highly recommended.

If purchasing , make sure to get the tranmission numbers for the OIII bands... each filter appears unique...I've seen them vary from 83% to 96%... the higher the throughput the better!

Really the best filter for visual use of planetary nebula! This also give lots of detail when viewing the veil nebula.

I have had breathtaking views with the OIII in my 10" Dob f/5. I have the 2" version and use it with a Panoptic 27mm and a Koenig 40mm (under extremely dark conditions, because the exit pupil is 8mm). I had extraordinary good views of the Veil Nebula and the North-America nebula last week using the OIII, and earlier this year good views of the Rosetta and Helix nebula. It does also extreme well with the Lagoon nebula. This filter is an absolute must, especially for this aperture and larger.

Nice filter. I have the 2" (48mm) version. Definitely is best used at a dark sky site on a large variety of emission objects. Essential for most faint planetaries and SNRs.
