Kimba The White Lion
The 1989 Kimba is rather dark compared to the original 1966 Kimba. I collected all six tapes and I'm sorry to say that Pioneer Entertainment doesn't have any attention to continue this series. The story line is basically the same in both versions but the '89 Kimba is more like a teenager with a bit of an attitude. The animation is improved in the '89 version but it's more like a cliffhanger series instead of an adventure each episode like the '66 Series. The names of the character are different (Rya for "Kitty", T.K. for "Bucky", Koko for "Pauley Cracker" and the rhino Old Dyce and the old lion Malady make up for Dan'l Babbon as far as wisdom from the past is concerned. If Pioneer won't continue this series, I hope another company buys the series because it ended with Kimba filled with confusion and the area in a very depressed state of mind. However, I'm glad that the original 1966 Series is now available on video from Right Stuf International. As an old Kimba fan from the past, I look forward to this collection.

I just purchased five videos in the new collection of Kimba videos. I found the animation very close to the orginal. The storylines are also the same, however, I still find myself yearning for the original. Why couldn't they release videos of the original series from the 60s? Also, why didn't they use the same title song?? The fact that they didn't really bummed me out. Also, who is the idiot that wrote the comment about Kimba being a ripoff of Simba? DUH!!! Kimba is the original! Also, I noticed some of the music on the new versons was very similar to a song in the Disney version. Disney stole that too, as these videos go back to at least 1989. I am happy to have Kimba again, but would prefer the original.

The new Kimba doesn't even come close in comparison to the original. The music is not as good. Rhia (sp) is not the same as Kitty, and female lions do not have manes! Where is Daniel Baboon? I'm on a quest for the original, English version videos of Kimba...because nothing else compares.

Hey, some advice for the ignorant reviewer above this review. Fist off, before you start going left and right writing anime reviews; make sure you know what your talking about first! For your information, "Kimba The White Lion" is a classic anime produced around the late 1960s. At least 30 years before the "Lion King". Disney's the one who copied anime, not the other way around. And actually, most everything in anime is not derived from any other source, and is for the most part totally original. Which is what makes anime so much more different, and better from anything Disney could accomplish. Disney's greatest achievments, do not surpass in greatness anime's worst failures.

Lion King came before that spacific episode of the Simpsons, but then agian, they copy alot of things like Pokyman(funny)about how in Japan it gave kids seizures but at least it really happend.

Idiots,Simba is not a ripoff of Kimba and vise-versa. Just because they sound the same. Simba in African means lion, and simba was never wight but I'v never seen kimba so who am I to say?

There is an episode of the simpsons in which "Bleeding Gums" Murphy dies. In the later half of the episode, a cloud forms and a lion emerges ala Lion King. He says: " YOu must rejoin the circle of life, Kimba...I mean, Simba." And it's dead true, Disney ripped this off so bad.

Ahhhhh, I said the "D" word.
