Description: | The original concept of BLOOD was developed by Mamoru Oshii, the director of Ghost in the Shell.
It tells part of a story about Saya, a vampire employed by a covert government agency to hunt down monsters. The DVD contains much of the backstory which makes the production easier to understand.
Made as an experiment, this animé pioneers a new style of CG and cellshaded integration. The visuals are stunning and the soundtrack is impressively compiled in 5.1 surround. The themes are somewhat stark and the action is graphically violent.
Some complain that the animé is too short, in that it falls nearly a quarter of an hour short of feature length. It seems, however, that this is only an introduction to our adventures with Saya, as sequels are rumoured to be in the works. Blood really comes across as a pilot rather than a stand alone piece. |
