I had been dealing with the people who started up this new retail venture when they were employees of the now defunct Pocono Mountain Optics. It's great to have these folks back and in complete control the shop and its business practices. These people are real pros, and they offer up plenty of advice from a "been there - done that" perspective.

Thus far all of my orders have shipped the same day. They charge a flat $8 for UPS shipping on reasonably sized eyepieces like Radians. Turnaround on email questions has been pretty consistent in the 24 hour range. At one point I mentioned an interest in Bald Eagles, and they sent me directions to an active nest near their shop. Another night we compared notes on the visibility of comet I-Z. Now I ask you, is that service, or what?

I agree there is something strange, the buying process doesnt always go smoothly, I bought from adorama, telescopes.com and scope city, no problem, scope city and telescopes.com have been very patient, they will email you if there is a problem with your payment credit card or money order, and everything went ok, but not with highpoint, my feeling is that they probably dont have enough staff for this kind of business.
If something doesnt feel right, just stop everything quickly, dont wait.I checked how they respond to the very few complaints they got on ebay and it's not good, you are always the one making the mistake ....(on ebay they offers very few items....)
Dont buy if your mode of payment is paypal, checks, money order, they say, you can on their web site but i m not sure they can handle it very well, and buy only things they gonna have for sure in stock....ebay is probably the best way to buy from them online if you wish to.

I've purchased various new and used Astronomy-related products from HighPoint Scientific and every time I am satisfied with their knowledge of the product and it's excellent condition when received.
I've driven 130 miles to check out and bring home an excellent (tenderly used and well collimated) Nexstar C11. Dave and the Team checked it over with me and made sure I was completely satisfied prior to my purchasing it. It was pinpoint accurate and provided me with many enjoyable nights.
They go that "extra mile" to make sure I get what I need and will try to save me a few dollars if there are similar products of equal value in their inventory.

Highly recommended.

My experience with Highpoint Scientific was a very strange one.

I have recently ordered astronomical equipment from several different dealers, mostly from the US but also from Germany. One of my recent experiences was Opticsplanet. It was very straightforward: I placed the order, paid with credit card and few days later, the stuff was at my home door. That is the way it usually works.

The Highpoint way was different. I went to their web site and placed the order with my credit card. Next day I got an email that they have a policy not to take European credit cards but offered that I could send a Paypal payment. Ok, I opened a Paypal account and sent the payment. Few days later the package arrived. I opened the box and to my surprise, only part of the stuff I ordered was there. The packing list however, had all the items. I called them and they said that it was weird. So thought I. They promised to take care of the issue and also did, sort of. Few days later another package arrived but, for another surprise, it contained something I did not order. I called again and they were sorry that such mistakes had been made. But, the missing item was no longer in stock any more, so I had to start waiting till they get more of them. Two or three weeks passed. Nothing. I sent an email and asked what's happening. I got a response that it should not take long. I never got a date when the item would arrive. Finally, nearly two months had passed and still nothing. I decided to cancel the deal and asked to get a refund for the stuff that I never received. Two or three weeks passed. Again nothing. I sent an email again, maybe they had forgot me. I got an email saying that things are very busy and promised to send the refund. I instructed not to refund my Paypal account because I had already closed it. A couple of emails and days later the refund was sent, with Paypal!

I guess most of the time they do a good job as I have heard from others. My first (and last) order they messed up several different ways.

This is my first vote since registering on Excelsis, so I'm not sure what level will be assigned my vote. However, I've been an amateur astronomer for 27 years and have had experience with a variety of astro equipment dealers.

I've been dealing with the guys at High Point Scientific since they were employees of the former Pocono Mountain Optics. They know their products and are straight shooters. Their prices are always competitive, but their service is absolutely first rate. They are all avid amateur astronomers themselves and use the products they sell. If you go to their store they'll let you try their products under the stars. I have had several transactions with High Point and have been 100% satisfied each time. If I had to sum High Point up in one word, it would be SERVICE.

Their motto is "experience IS the difference", and it's certainly
true at High Point Scientific. Two employees - Dave Barrett
and Mike Peoples - are formerly of Pocono Mt. Optics, and
are highly knowledgeable about all the products they sell, and
they actually USE the equipment themselves for both obser-
ving and astrophotography. Prices are competitive, but the
service before and after the sale is top-notch. Although I live
over 140 miles away, it's always a pleasure to visit the store
and "talk shop" with such great, knowledgeable people.

I drove 120 miles one-way to their store and these guys were extremely patient in helping me pick out some eyepieces and other accessories. Being a beginner, I'm sure I asked a bunch of dumb questions, but they never talked down to me. High Point is fairly new (the employees used to work for the now defunct Pocono), but I hope they stay in business for a good long time. In short, these guys are awesome! And no, I don't work for these guys.

I have bought a few items from these guys including a TV76 and they are definately pro's. They have good prices and are extremely experienced with today's equipment. I have been dealing with Mike P. for about 3 years now and I am glad they are back on their feet.
