Despite having measured my stairwell and the turn radius, I was sweating bullets when the TV delivery people arrived. I had to take the front door off the hinges to compensate for the idiot architect who put the front door on a right angle to the stairs in my apartment. After a lot of grunting and back breaking lifting, the TV finally made it upstairs and in the spot I had cleared for it. Man, I am very satisfied with my purchase. I watch TV from about 10 feet and the picture from DVDs is flawless (Toshiba 5109 Progressive Scan DVD player mated with the Progressive scan inputs on the TV). Had to do some adjustment using the Video Essentials DVD. The only complaint in that department is that Toshiba should have allowed for more than 1 memory slot for the picture preference settings. The TV requires different settings for optimum picture when switching between the ColorStreamPro input and the TV input. (especially in the Color setting)

Unfortunately, the limitations of the NTSC cable signal also become more evident on such a big screen. Cable signal quality is passable, But most of my video watching is DVD based. The picture quality is incredible.

I definitely recommend this TV set to anyone wanting a big screen tv with upgrade capabilities to HDTV when available in your area.

Does not rule fool. What a waste of hard earned cash. To think I waited 6 months for this piece of crap. Very much over-rated DON'T BE FOOLED!!!!!!!!!!!

Toshiba TW56X81
This is the best looking picture I have seen on a RP tv (except on the big brother TW65X81, which I could not possibly get up the steps to my apartment). The TV does a pretty good job of filling up the 16x9 screen with regular tv broadcast without too much apparent distortion. I am watching this tv from about 10 feet away and DVDs look amazing. The only problem is that with such a big screen, it is much more apparent how crappy the cable picture quality is. I guess I will be looking into satellite.
