I've had my Sony DVP-S300 2 years now and have received great results.

This Unit is amazing....It goes great with MY PSB speaker set-up and my Yamaha Amp. Simply the best unit for the price.

I paired mine with a Sony 50ES AV amp and my DIY home theater speakers and the result is amazing. The sound is crisp and the video quality is high. I have also been re-listening to all my old CD's because I can hear things that I never could before. The dual discrete optical pickup is a great feature for the price. Now I just hope that the quality is there and it doesn't break down.

After three weeks with this player, I thinks it's excellent. The unit has a solid heft and appearance. The controls on the remote are all useful, and once you figure out the remote it's easy to navigate. The volume control on the remote is especially nice; it's much more sensitive than my receiver's remote.

The S300 was difficult to find. I tracked down a single unit at Conn's an applicance/TV chain store, and purchased the floor model at a good discount. I believe the S300 is discontinued and a replacement, the S330, is forthcoming.

Video output appears sharp and the video streaming is perfectly smooth. The audio CD output is particularly nice. Every CD sounds just a bit crisper and clearer than it did on my previous CD player. I hope to use the digital audio output someday.

My only criticisms are small, and could have been avoided by purchasing the s500 or higher. It could use one more set of av analog jacks, and possibly component video (to use with a HDTV monitor in the future).

All told, the DVP S300 is a great value.

The Sony DVP 300 is a great machine for the money. The picture and sound is wonderful. Just hook it up to a Dolby digital receiver and you should be all set to go. Don't go out and invest too much money on a DVP. With recordable DVD'S coming out in a couple of years the unit you buy now will probably end up replacing the VCR you have in your bedroom. I'm sure there are other great DVP'S out there; this is one of them. That is just my opinion.

Sony DVP-S300
This is a great DVD Player its my first!
I have been playing my DVD's on a Creative Labs DXR2 kit on my pc and a standalone DVD player kicks the crap out of my dxr2! in terms of the picture and sound!

I only wish that sony would have made the remote smaller and had the buttons lite, so I can use the remote when I turn the lights off :)

Other then that this is a GREAT DVD Player!!

Sony DVP-S300
My first player and I can't stop using it. I now play all my audio CD's on the Sony S300 as well as my DVDs. Audio quality for CDs is better than my old Pioneer 6-disc changer. Video is incredible. I would give it a rating of 10, but as others have also mentioned, the remote leaves a little to be desired (backlighting, jog dial come to mind). Overall it is a great product at a nice price ($349).

Sony DVP-S300
My first DVD player... I was in the market for a new CD player and kicked around the idea for a while...

WOW, picture is great sound is fantastic (YAMAHA RX-v2092 & 2)ADCOM GFA-555II's)

I had second thoughts about needing one, but after 40 movies showed up Christmas Eve (Girlfriend with my C.C.) I haven't had second thoughts since.

Though a jog shuttle on an illuminated remote would be nice, i'll live.

It's not a bad DVD. But, it's not worth the price. The remote is really clunky, with poorly shaped buttons, and a bad layout. It's priced as if it had AC3 decoding- which it doesn't. The only thing that made it worthwhile to me is that BestBuy has a 5 movies package, and Netflix.com had a 2-movie package thrown in with it.

This is my first deck. Thus far, I've seen four movies on it:
Fifth Element, 2001, Gattaca, & Crimson Tide.

Wow. I'm pretty impressed. The video quality on all of those was stunning.
If you've not yet heard Dolby 5.1 you should check out Crimson Tide.

Since this is my first player, I can't be sure if I love this deck, or
the technology.

The reason I give it a 9 rather than a 10, is the remote. It's certainly large
enough, and well laid out enough, but it could use a backlight. And the
"joystick" pad is a little bit touchy to use on at least one menu I've come
across.

All in all, I'm delighted. BTW - I decided on this player because of cost.
Sorry. I came across it in a post xmas open box special. $279 was too good
to pass up.
