Pioneer DV-414
I've owned my DV414 for about 18 months now. It is part of a very high end system. I had looked at several other players costing a lot more but simply could not justify paying a lot extra for a player that was only marginally better, if any, than the 414. We don't watch a lot of movies however when we do we "watch" the movie. All the added bells and whistles that you get for sometimes many more dollars are not required in our family. Hence, the 414 and the enjoyment it brings. Great player at a great price! And, it looks great mounted in with my other components. I agree with those comments made about the small buttons on the remote but that's not even a bother for me. Usually I may pause the movie to make a pit stop etc. but I know where the button is to do that, so no big deal. As for the fast forward scan, mine seems to work just fine and I have experienced no problem areas overall with this player.

For the money, it's a perfect 10. Got mine for $300 w/o CA sales tax. I absolutely love it. Zero problems.

Pioneer DV-414
Looks great for the price, especially via the component outputs. I bought three of the DV-414, and I have had no trouble out of any of them. I have one hooked to my Sony FV-1 36" WEGA TV, which also has performed great. I'm going to buy another player this week as a gift, and I'm going to have to stick with Pioneer since I've had such success with the ones I have. I'll go with the DV-525 since the DV-414 is discontinued. I haven't had any of the screen flicker problems that some say they have had, and I have LOTS of DVD's. Either it's not that prevalent of a problem or I got three great players!

Pioneer DV-414
I['m delighted with the player. It has none of the lip synch problems I've heard about, and the picture and sound quality are breathtaking.

My only criticisms are minor niggles, such as the scan function not being as smooth as I like (or indeed, variable in speed). Also the lack of a screen saver mode when in pause for too long. Also slow tray speed when opening and closing.

As I said - minor!

Just an excellent entry level player. My Wife and I have played about 30 discs on the Pioneer and it has performed almost flawlessly so far. The audio and video quality are first rate for a machine of this value and would make a fine addition to anyones H.T. system. The remote leaves alot to be desired the buttons are too small and spaced too close together. It would also be nice it the remote were backlit as most of us tend to watch DVD's in dimly lighted rooms and my eyes aren't getting any better the older I get.

Pioneer DV-414
One of the few players that output true 96 kHz 24-bit PCM digital signal. I hooked the Pioneer to my Sony 9000ES (with 96/24 D/A playback), and the result is superb. The clarity and resolution of 96/24 DVD (Chesky makes a lot of good DVD) beats 44/16 CD by a big margin.

I am disappointed that not a lot of manufacturers are making DVD players with 96/24 digital output. Sony, Toshiba, Denon & Panasonic have good DVD players, but none of them can send out a true 96/24 PCM digital signal. The 10-bit video DAC of Pioneer is very good too. Given the price of the Pioneer 414 (around US$300), I can live with a bare bone remote control and harsh video scanning.
