I've had the player for about 4 years now (this is 9/01) and just last month purchased a receiver worthy of it. The only thing I dilike is the stupid remote. I know, get over it,but the joystick is small and slow and leaves me wanting a set of 4 buttons left-right-up-down. They could do the same functions and probably take up less room on the keypad.
A/V quality is awesome!! There are scenes in Gladiator that have everyone in the room looking to the rear and ducking. To get the full punch I feel you need a receiver that decodes dts and either optical or digital coaxial conection between the two.

Panasonic DVD-A310
My Panasonic DVD A310 started pixelating 1 year after I owned it. It would freeze up on a numerous DVD titles. Customer service is a joke. Recommend other brand if you had a choice. There are now so many other DVD players that are cheaper that to buy a Panasonic and deal with their crappy Customer service is a waste of time. A310 is good if it didn't lock up as much. See audioreview.com for reviews on this DVD

Panasonic DVD-A310
I bought mine from Circuit City. I got an amazing deal (right at the $300 level!) on it, but the bums there "lost" the instruction manual. "No problem" they said, and then proceeded to tell me that I could call Panasonic directly for a free replacement. Yeah - RIGHT! Try a "free" $25 manual. My Circuit City salesperson refused my calls when I asked for them to pay for it, and I am since lost without a manual. If anyone can help me out by scanning or photocopying in theirs, I would appreciate it, because without it I cannot access any of the on-screen features like picking selections, languages, etc. Thanks in advance. My email addy is mr_boomtastic@hotmail.com

Panasonic DVD-A310
I think this is an excellent Player. I think its the Jack of all trades for the Panasonic line looks like the A-300 with DTS w/o kaeoke who needs it any way. I like the look of the 2nd generation better than the Third. The third generation are more glitchy than second. I sell them too and I only seen 1 A-310 come back where I sell them. If I had the choice between the A-310 or 320 the I would choose the 310.

Panasonic DVD-A310
Excellent design and quality. Only problem with it occurred when dvd froze on a particular scene in Air Force One near the the end. Don't know if it was the dvd player problem or dvd, since dvd is new. Returned and receive new one. No problem since. You can pick it up at www.soundcity.com for $399-cheapest I've seen so far. Joystick is OK-nothing spectacular to brag about.

Panasonic DVD-A310
Excellent Player!!! Consider Sony. After side by side comparison, Sony was good, but Panasonic beat it hands down. I would recommend this player to anyone.

Panasonic DVD-A310
I'm curious to know why the last reviewer said that the A310 is returned by
customers more than any other player. Is it because customers experience
problems afterwards or do they simply decide they wanted a different player?

I purchased the A310 back in Oct and so far it has been great. Absolutely no
problems. I also own a Panasonic laserdisc player which has worked flawlessly
for years, so I'm somewhat brand loyal.

Pluses: A nice little feature is that when you power the unit down in the
middle of a movie, it remembers where you last were when powering back up.
This is something that neither the Sony S500D or Toshiba 3108 models offer.

You can tell that Panasonic put some thought into designing the remote. The
buttons are arranged in a way so it's easy to find the desired command without
having to peek down, and certain buttons (play and power) have that little
tactile dot that you can feel for additional identification.

The overall picture quality is superb and the sound is equally good. I don't
know enough about the Dolby Digital or DTS decoders to comment, but a friend of
mine said it's not a bad idea to have both.

Areas for improvement: Response is a bit slow between certain functions such
as going to the menu and navigating. Also, Panasonic's joystick implementation
on the remote takes some getting used to and is probably not ideal for DVD
games such as "Dragon's Lair."

Overall, I'm more than satisfied with this DVD player and would recommend it
to anyone else who is in the market for one under $500.
