I have the 55 inch elite. It is less than 5 years old and inoperative. It has a shorted green crt, circuit board and power supply. Repairs are $1,328. This
is not acceptable product quality. I would suggest you buy a cheaper TV - the quality could not be worse. This tv cost $4,700. Junk!!

The Pioneer Rear Projection is of very poor quality in the wiring circuits. I know because I have owned one for several years--Several years and the set hasn't played a total of 20 hours since I have owned. Set will not power up, or goes off with only sound remaining, stays off for 1 minut to several hours then automatically powers up again.
Set has been in Authorized RCA repair shops numerous times with the same diagnosis---loose connection, charge $100. The repair shop feels sorry for me lugging this "monster" into the shop once a month.

The instruction manual says "this set has a dew sensor to sense moisture. If the set dos not power up wait a while for moisture to evaporate.

If I were a Television Manufacturer, I would fire my entire QC Staff and start over. I don't believe the Company owners would sale this crate if they knew the truth. "ITS NOT A QUALITY PRODUCT".

I just purchased the 60" version of this TV, and all I have to say is wow.
I looked at all of the latest models and could not convince myself that HDTV was important yet. So I chose the best overall picture. I compared this set to the new Sony XBR's and Mitsubishi HDTV's and Hitachi's and Panasonics new HDTV. And after getting completly confused the Elite's picture was superior.
You will not go wrong with this one.
I also got a terrific price (which always helps).

Picture is incredible. DVD looks awesome using component connections (haven't tried S-Video yet). Only problem lies in PIP (picture in picture). You have to go through a couple menus to move the PIP around the screen - no easy access buttons on remote. However, the quality of the PIP is great. Other than PIP moving problem it is probably one of the best rear projectors on the market. The TV itself is incredibly beautiful. Piano Lacquer finish is a real nice touch. Can be found cheaper than suggested MSRP. 16x10.7 aspect ratio is a good mix between normal 4x3 and 16x9 tv's - cable or dss picture fits in the screen better than in 16x9 and widescreen movies fit in better than on 4x3.

I bought a Pro 100, the picture is fine (when you can actually see it). It is now on the third power supply. One replacement PS was DOA. I agree with another comment I saw posted. The Pip is hard to use, the quality of the picture is great but mine has been down far more than up. I will NEVER buy another Pioneer product. The 3rd time is the charm having previously owned a Pioneer laser disk and receiver--all of which had problems.

It has normally taken five days to get someone to repair it. Save yourself some grief and buy something else.
