Toshiba SD-2108
Have had nothing but flawles performance from my 2108 for almost 2 years. I haven't had a bug or glitch in combonation with my Denon AVR-3300 Dolby Digital Receiver and my 61" Toshiba RP-TV using the componenet (Color Stream on the back of the TV) connection. Home Theater is alive and well at my house thanx to Toshiba!!! Can't wait to get my DVDO line doubler in the mail. Can't imagine it getting any better than it already is???!!! :]

What can I say.Lots of people comment on audio dropouts , and in truth i've heard it can be both the DVD and the reciever, or a combination thereof.
Video playback is superb esp on a widescreen TV. Some of the comments on downconversion artifacts from anamorphic widescreen to a standard 4;3 TV are A problem, I disagree, DVD is still imperfect and relatively young, so any minor problem tends to be blownup and out of proportion.
As for the general video quality the unit is very sharp. great picture!
I will agree that a backlit remote would be nice but at the pricepoint I can understand.
You doget the goodies you really need; coax and optical digital output, component video output, a good(even if not backlit) remote, a cool zoom feaure, and black level control.
Only major qualm is the onscreen menus, they tend to look rather unpolished esp in caomparison to the 2109 and 3109.
IMHO after buying this unit there is no need to upgrade until a major advancement is made.......Progressive scan or the ability to pass a 480p signal.

I am one of those padantic people - and with HIFI it is easy to find problems because I reckon there is greater emphasis on marketting than product quality.
However, I have to hang my head in shame, because as far as I am concerned, the DVD playback on model is flawless - probably the best on the market.
Ok, maybe there's one deficiency - it downconverts 24bit/96Khz on digital output (apperently on analog outputs it doesn't). But with AC-3 being the crappy format that it is, who cares?!

Toshiba SD-2108
The best DVD player out on the market, hands down. Only problem with system was a dropout problem regarding sound. This was an early problem and has since been fixed. If you do have a 2108 and are experienceing that problem, toshiba will fix it for free.

When you compare picture and sound quality for under $500, your choice is the 2108.

Toshiba SD-2108
I got a 2108 in December. It is a great unit. I bought it because the DVD in my pc is a Toshiba and it works great. The remote could be better (small buttons and no lighting). I have a Toshiba TV and the remote is much better.

Toshiba SD-2108
Excellent bang for the buck, but the audio glitch is too much to handle. Toshiba has my receiver in for a chip upgrade to retify the audio dropout which occurs with all movies played back in multi-channel encoding at least once during the movie. I am running sony 825 receiver.

Toshiba SD-2108
Would have rated it higher but this unit does not play CD-R audio discs, something that irks me as a vendor of CD-R audio discs =) Great video quality, have not experienced any audio dropouts with Dolby Digital - however, I havent yet sat through an entire movie (also this unit was made recently, so they've probably fixed it). Great remote, backlighting would be nice in 4th gen. My first standalone DVD player (previously owned Creative Labs DXR2) and overall I'm very happy. Does the 3108 play CD-R?

The remote sucks and I don't see the use of Display feature where we change to 4:3, 4:3 letterbox, and 16:9. I didn't see this work at all.
