Company Seven
Small shop specializing primarily in medium to high-end, high-quality equipment. Small but solid line of beginners equipment. Staffed by ~3 serious amateurs; extremely knowledgible and very helpful. Often seem more concerned about pretty views and equipment performance than actually selling stuff. Not the lowest prices, but balanced by a genuine concern for providing quality product. Seem to assemble and check every scope before it ships. Limited on-hand inventory; maybe not the first place to call if you need it by tomorrow. Museum-like showroom in Laurel, MD a must see; huge variety of beautiful equipment on display. Excellent web site. About 8 orders with no problems.

Very knowledgable. They will admit that they can't or won't compete with places like Focus Camera in price. Martin Cohen loves to talk your ear off and knows what he is taliking about. They are pricey but there is a peace of mind associated with the fact that they check everything out. Is it worth the extra $$$$.? That's up to the customer to decide. I paid about $100 more than I could have for my 10x70 Fujinons but got a good schooling from Martin on what makes a high qualitybinocular.

I have send 10 E-mail with question about purchasing Pixcell 237 CCD because I have great wish to buy it from Company Seven. I wait two monts but there is no answer. I think that is very unprofessional for this company with a Big name! They could answer me that they dont want sell to me ( to Europe).
I am very dosappoint with Company7.

In reference to e-mail problem mentioned. I recently sent an e-mail that received an immediate response with an apology for if they had not responded soon enough. Apparently they had e-mail trouble for a number of months that has only recently been straightened out.

C-7 is a astro nerds paradise. They also appeal to astro nerds like me. THey have one of the most informative web pages on telescopes and other products anywhere. I purchased a AP telescope thorugh them along with some accessories. THey accidently shipped me an extra set of telescope rings.I returned them after notifying them and got almost free shipping on my scope when it arrived becasue of it. I know I could have kept them and sold them but not a good thing to do to a company you might consider doing business with at a later time. So onlyreason not a 10 ws becasue they made me make an extra trip to the post office.

This firm has provided some of the finest responses to inquiries of any I have contacted, very impressive. They are serious about astronomy equipment, sell quality products and have a knowledge level that exceeds most in the industry. Not only will they guide you to the right equipment, they'll make eyepiece/equipment recommendations predicated on information you provide or ask about. If you're just shopping for the lowest price, perhaps they aren't the best firm to contact, but the benefit of doing business with Company 7 will be apparent.

Absolutely first class customer service, before and after purchase. They carry mid to high end scopes and equipment and will discuss your wants/needs at great lengths without any sales pressure. They will help you design your equipment purchases not only for what you want now, but with an eye on your future needs as well. Martin knows optics like few others (C7 designs and builds custom optics for the Defense Dept, NASA, etc. The owner of Pocono Mtn Optics called him an "optics guru.")

You'll pay a little more for the extra service, but it's worth it. They check out every scope before sale to make sure everything is up to spec. If you live in the area and can pick it up in person, they'll spend several hours with you going over everything from optics theory to setup, takedown, collimation, etc. The shop is like a telescope/binocular museum -- if you're fanatical about scopes, you must see the stuff on display there! Warning!! Bring a drool bib!

As a side note, as they say on their web site they are a small shop and are often absolutely swamped with e-mail (several hundred a day), so if you need quick response, call them on the phone.

Bought my AP1200 GTO from Martin. A very knowledgable guy with a lot of field experience that he is willing to share. Will steer you to make an informed decision on purchases. Will take the time to really talk to you about equipment selections and not in a hurry just to sell you something and get off the line. When you deal with C7, you deal with serious amateur astronomers who have "been there, done that". I would highly recommend them to others and will certainly buy from C7 again in the future.

I am BLESSED! I live in Laurel, Maryland, near Company 7. Marty and Bruce are among my favorite people. Several folks from our Internet company have bought there, including the Boss, who got a HUGE Astrophysics marvel from Marty.

If you visit the shop, do NOT expect it to be a fast "in-and-out." This business is as much social for Marty and Bruce as it is an enterprise. Some of us have bemoaned the fact that our local "ambience" hamburger place burned down, because Marty and Bruce enjoy breaking bread with their clients, who are also their friends.

Do not expect bargains. But do expect quality and honest, professional advice. And they will be very candid with you about their present assessments of various suppliers of optics.

You cannot go wrong with these folks.

Come to Laurel. It will be worth the trip!

Their service is very good. I've dealt with other stores before but C7 gives the best service. When buying from C7 I can be sure that i will receive a product that will perform as it's advertised. I can be sure that the product will not have a hidden defect.
Delivery is fast, i would say the delivery time is normal. The price is a bit high though, you can find other stores that sell the same products at lower price. If the price is lower (or at least at the same price as other stores) I would give them 10. But for the kind of service they provide the price differences is worth it.

All the things everyone else says are true. But these guys are also incredibly arrogant. It can really turn off a newbie. Also, they should loose the sandals w. dark socks look :-)

That said, I purchased a TV85 there and am a satisfied customer.

They were honest and very helpful when I purchased a Traveler two years ago. I was a bit intimidated initially. But, I think it was because of the professionalism they displayed. I found their web site is an excellent information source. In additon their free orientation class to scope buyers was very impressive. You know they stand behind their products. Their prices were in line with what other high quality companies charge. The scope arrived in the time allotted. I just wish I had bought 10 more. It would have been a better investment than the stock market!

Prices were the highest of all suppliers I looked at. When I had a problem 2 days after the purchase with paint on the inside of the lens that flaked off the tube of the Televue 85 I was accused of having done something to the scope. After it came back from Televue the scope was returned to me with no comment or apology, also no charge.

I have visited Company Seven twice and found them very knowledgable
and extremely helpful. I have spoken with both Martin and Bruce
and their patient, informative explanations were extremely
instructive to this "rookie". I decided to buy a Meade telescope
which they don't carry and Martin even made some suggestions regarding
reputable sources for the instrument. I plan to buy my eyepieces and
CCD gear from them. I was extremely impressed by their business
ethics, courtesy and professional demeanor in the face of a what
they quickly recognized as a potential customer only for their
competitors. I hope that the industry wakes up enough to recognize
true value in having such a high quality firm distributing their
products.

Really a 9.5. Who can be perfect?
I have ordered several EPs from them in the past few months.
Service was prompt, and informative. They took the time to
answer my questions without rushing me, and offered their
opinions without being overbearing. Delivery was always as
promised. The only negative is that sometimes it was difficult
to get through by phone. Prices for TV are a few bucks higher,
but to me, the level of service and trust more than merits it.

On several occasions, an order turned into a discussion with
a fellow astronomer lending advice and trying to help out.

One of the guys is arrogant and rude, lets you know that the "a big government agency" has an order in ahead of you. The other guy is down to earth, intelligent, and straight-forward. Prices are the highest, but they really don't offer anything you can't get elsewhere--cheaper.
