They are good mail order house. I got my CG-11 from them. Had a problem with the counter weight they sent me the floor model to get me going!!! They are good!!!

Switched from Shutan to OPT and have bought a LX200 plus a lot of accessories from them. Knowledgeable and gives good advice. Shipping is prompt and they always have what I want in stock. The best is they are friendly and never try to sell you things you don't need, they even talk you out of buying unnecessary expensive accessories that would not work well with your particular scope (ie. high power eyepiece for small scope). I am buying everything from them from now on.

This is a place that you send your friends to. They suggested many ways to get better equipment at the best prices. They don't just sell you something that you don't need. And there may not be a friendlier company anywhere. Fast response time. Very knowledgeable. Been around a long time.

Visited their store (was in San Diego on business and drove up to Oceanside. They are right off off Interstate 5 - Misson south) Very knowledgable staff who were a pleasure to deal with. Large in stock inventory. Used equipment as well. I'd do business there all the time if I lived in the area. However I would find it easier to deal with them on-line if they had a secure server.

I bought a TV-101, mount, and accessories from them in two separate orders. Their prices were the best and I had checked everywhere. Their shipping costs were also the lowest for me. Except for the OTA on back-order, everything else shipped out the following morning after the orders were placed. They also gave an accurate ETA for the OTA.

In both orders, they thought they were out of stock in several items and had to check their warehouse. They called me back in less than an hour and said they had found the items. They were always courteous, friendly, and knowledgeable.
I never felt rushed or pressured by them. I WILL buy from them again!

I have to give Oceanside a 10!!! I order my scope, a Meade 10" LX 200 on December 20,1999.It was shipped thru Airborne Express the same day, and arrived two days later, Dec. 22 at Airborne offices here in Puerto Rico, just in time for my birthday on Dec.23.
I talk to Craig, the owner, it was so helpful,friendly and very interested in what I was saying and asking. The prices were great. And it was in Christmas season!!!
I recommend them to anyone!!! Just today (Jan 17, 2000), I order an eyepiece, filters and other accesories for my new scope. I will buy from them anytime I need something.

My favorite local store. Prices are very, very competitive, stock is excellent, and the counter service is friendly and knowledgable. The sales tax is slightly lower than Los Angeles County too. Mike, John, Gus and all of the others I have dealt with are really fine folks who know their product lines. Bend-over-backwards service is what you can expect from OPT.

Some of the sales people here are quick to advise you to
spend your money wisely. While some others, will sell you
alot of things that you don't need. Or what's worse things
that just don't work. I purchased over $1200 dollars worth
of telescope equiptment, only $130 dollars of it actually
worked properly. Once I figured this out and called them
back to see what could be done, I got bit of "the run around"
in being sent back and forth between the manufacturer of the
equiptment and OPT. While the manufacturer (CELESTRON) seemed
very cooperative in trying to repair the situation, OPT - or
actually I should say one of thier reps seemed intent on deflecting
the blame and the responsibility to the manufacturer even though
my money was sitting in thier pockets while the scope that they
stood behind enough to sell to me was defective. When I asked to
talk to the supervisor, I was told that talking to him wouldn't
change the situation and was promptly sent on my way. My advice,
if you decide to do business with OPT, make sure that you always
deal with the owner directly in case anything should go wrong with
the equiptment that you buy. As for accessories, half the stuff
I bought (on recommendation from the salesman) was either useless
with my scope or defective and missing lens caps. So, if you do
decide to buy accessories there as well, be sure to inspect them
before you hand over your hard earned money. Anyway, judging by
the other great reviews here, my bad experience may have been unique.
So don't let this review by itself stop you from buying there. This
is just a warnging to all you folks out there in consumerland.
Even the most reputable stores can screw up big time.
The money and the choice is yours, so be cautious.

This is Mike Fowler the Manager of Oceanside Photo & Telescope. I just had to respond to the above comment, and apologize if this not in proper "netiquette". We try very hard everyday to ensure ALL of our customers are MORE than happy. Our goal is 100% satisfaction with the items and service they recieve when dealing with us. Obviously we failed to make the customer above happy. I wish I could have helped him? I don't know what the problems were? I wish he or she would of insisted on getting management involved. I have made several purchases inlcuding telesopes, mounts, and acessories. over the last two years from Oceanside. I have found their entire sales team outstanding. Service was diligent and consistent even before I made any purchases. When I bought my LX200 from them, I thought a part was defective that Meade shipped (it turned out that it was ok). Instead of giving me a hassle, the salesman actually overnighted (at no charge) the replacement part so that I was could be up and running the next day. Since I am on the east coast I am really able to take andvantage of OPT's late hours. On a few occasions they have helped me with some technical questions in my late evening. Mike Fowler (sales manager) has even talked me through a collimation over the phone! You can't go wrong with these guys. Their prices are fair and they can really be trusted!

These guys give excellent advice and they don't try to sell you equipmeent and accessories that you don't need. Prices are not the lowest but if you want the straight "scoop" on your "scope" then this is the place for you.

Excellent service, prompt shipment. I can't believe they had a new Losmandy GM8 in stock when NO ONE else did. They astronomy people so they DO know what they're talking about when you call them up with some technical-ish questions. They are very competitively priced and take AMEX which is difficult to find these days! Highly recommended.

I have purchased 2 telescopes from OPT a C8+ & a nexstar 5. Both scopes were sold to me by Mike Fowler personally. The service was excellent and the follow up support was even better. I had the option to purchase the same equpiment from Scope City but I did not. I waited 2 days to get my nexstar 5 in fact, i drove 45 miles one way to pick it up myself. Mike was very truthfull with his recommendations. He told me the nextstar 5 is a great scope but does not have the visual capabilities of the c8+. He was right, but I love the computerized features and it is very portable...
