Reaonable prices, items normally in stock, fast delivery. Good telephone support (if you can get through). Honest company. Have purchased quite a bit of equipment from them and will do so again.

I have purchased from them several times. Their prices are average, or just a bit higher on some items. I have been perfectly satisfied with some orders. I have been shipped the wrong item as well. My recent experience with them involved having to dial their number literally over a hundred times before I got an answer instead of a busy signal; for this reason, I don't plan to do business with them in the future. The rude salesman (see above references) needs to go.

Ordered a 2" everbrite diagonal, 22mm Panoptic eyepiece, and a Starbound observing chair via internet. The diag and ep arrived within 2 days, and I received an email that the chair was backordered but was expected to be in stock within a week. Nine days later the chair arrived. Haven't had to deal with them over the phone but this one experience was excellent. The prices were about average -- pretty much the same as every dealer charges.

Their prices are just about the best around, but their service can be wildly inconsistent.

For example, several months ago I placed an order through their web site. Called a week later to find out that the item had been backordered. This wasn't stated in the online receipt and they never bothered to contact me. I ended up getting the item somewhere else.

Since that time, I've just placed an order for a Celestron SCT 8" dew shield, which they're offering at a price $10 less than FocusCamera. On the phone the salesperson was very helpful, and answered my newbie questions without condescension or impatience.

Haven't received the items yet to see how they're packed, but if they arrive okay I'll probably deal exclusive with Pocono.

International Customers be careful!

I have orderd from PMO about 4 times. The first 3 times were ok but took some time to complete as they are obviously snowed under and have little time for email, not a big problam. The big problem came when I received a bad US$180. LP filter. "No problem we will exchange it", so far so good. After many emails and faxes (international rates !) I was still being told that the returned parcel had not arrived at PMO. After seven months, much hassle and letters to the US postmaster I final got a letter to say that the US post office had a signiture of receipt dated seven months earlier that proved the item had been delivered.

Only then did I get my replacement, a sorry was barely forthcoming.

If you just order one or two items, they're fine. If you place an order for a number of items, such as a scope, mount, and accessories, be prepared to wait a long time, not get any feedback, and have your order TOTALLY fouled up if you try to make any changes. No matter how many times I spoke with them or emailed them, they continued to have my original order in their system, with NONE of the changes/additions/deletions I had made. They also refused to contact Meade to find out how long it might be before my 10" SCT OTA would be available. They said you couldn't trust anything Meade told you. I ended up contacting Pocono West & asked THEM to cancel the entire order. I placed the order with Anacortes (great company to deal with), they called Meade to find out when the scope would be available, and I received it approximately when they said it should arrive, along with the rest of my order. I'll never purchase from Pocono Mtn again.

I have purchased many items from this company. I find them fast on delivery and very knowledgeable on their products. It seems many of the sales people there own telescopes and have personal experience with the items they sell.

I ordered a German equatorial mount and a finder scope,
they sent me a tuna fish and a banjo.
The tuna was delicious! I'm still learning to play the banjo.
I must give them a 10.

I called to check availability/prices on some standard planetary filters, and I don't know the person's name, but he seemed pretty disinterested in helping me. I am always polite on the phone, but he only offered curt "yes" or "no" answers, with no further help or explanations. The filters I wanted weren't in stock, and when I said, "Ok, thanks for your help," the guy just hung up the phone. Maybe he wasn't interested in my 2-bit order which may have led to an expensive order eventually.

I live within driving distance on the Pocono east store (about 45 miles away). At one time I believed that I was very fortunate to live so close to their showroom. My fellow astronomy friends and I would make excursions there and inevitably walk out spending far more money than we intended. No longer. What we discovered, or began to realize over time, was that shopping at their showroom was tough business. In fact, on several occasions, long waits to talk with someone were followed only by brief, uninformative conversation and more long waits. On occasion we would jokingly say "we should have sat in the parking lot and called on the phone!" We at least felt good about being able to have the product in hand and not have to wait for shipping. Then we stopped feeling good about that too. With one scope I bought from them, the quality was not the same as the one on the sales floor. Specifically the finder scope would not come to focus and the focuser on the scope was very tight and had a lot of shift. I drove out to PMO to see what they could do. I wasn't looking for a refund, just some advice. What I experienced was akin to returning to a used car lot with one of those cars with an "out of sight warranty." One employee called the scope "Crapogee" to my face and made derisive comments about it to his colleagues. The other one, while at least adjusting the focuser, explained that I had, after all only bought a $600 scope! If a business maintains a showroom, then they should make some effort at normal, store-like sales practices. PMO simply does not. From what I read here, the mail-order part of their business is no better. Go elsewhere!

It's refreshing to deal with what is obviously a relatively small company. A month or so ago, I called Pocono to order a Telrad for our 10" Dob and a copy of Pennington's Messier Marathon book. I asked the guy who answered if they had them in stock, and he replied "Hold on, I'll go look." Pocono may not be a mom-and-pop operation, but it seems that way.

They had both items in stock. I gave them my credit card number and asked how and when they'd ship it. He said it'd go out that day via UPS. Two days later, the UPS guy showed up with the stuff I'd ordered. It was well packed and undamaged.

My wife loves the Telrad, and decided she wanted another one to replace the 6X30 finderscope on our 90mm refractor. I called Pocono again and spoke to a person who sounded like the same one I'd ordered from before. I told him I needed a Telrad and another book and asked him if both were in stock. Once again, he said, "Hold on. I'll go look." Both were in stock. This was a Tuesday, and I was hoping they'd arrive before the weekend, so I asked him when the stuff would ship. It was late afternoon, and he said the stuff would go out either that afternoon or the next day. I said I hoped it'd go out that afternoon because I wanted to have it for the weekend. He said he'd try to get it out that day. Two days later, on Thursday afternoon, UPS showed up with the stuff. Once again, it was well packed and undamaged.

Pocono seems to have good prices, and they deliver what they say they'll deliver when they say they'll deliver it. I've read some of the negative comments here, but I experienced none of the problems mentioned. As far as I'm concerned, no one should hesitate to order from Pocono.

This company filed chapter 7 banruptcy on Sept 13. They owe many astronomers money and equipment. Sky and Scope has refused a request to let readers, who don't have access to the internet know about this. Its not astro news according to them. This has hurt the hobby and many individuals.
