Marantz SR-780
This is a good amplifier. Have been using it for the last two years to drive a 5.1 NHT system. The downside has been the low power of 80 W/chn. Especially with the NHT's this has been a killer since the NHTs are lower sensitivity speakers! Therefore, if you are planning to use this amplifier, make sure to set up with bass-reflex type speakers rated at higher sensitivities (>88db)

This unit sucks! The best thing about any Marantz product is the remote.Audio quality is for surround only. You can not listen to music

Have owned the unit over a year. Has performed exceptionally with my Bose A-10 system. Price point to quality to functionality all have left me very satisfied. Only drawback I have found was the lack of support for full rear channel sound when listening to music.

Marantz SR-780
This model sounds a little worse than the model 680 because it was made in Singapore. PLease be careful when you buy it. I have a 680 and it was made in japan and then I brought back after 2 weeks and got the 780 because I thought it sounds better and more power but I was wrong. Even though it has more power than the 680 but the sound is a little inferior and it looked cheap and in fact the material was cheap. I do not know why Marantz doing this, one model was made in one country and one was in Japan. So I brought the 780 back and got the 680 instead. What the FFFF, I was angry at myself because I thought the grass on the other side was green. It costed me a few hundreds buck because the store did not refund my money but give me credit. GET THE 680 and YOU WILL BE AMAZED WITH HOW IT SOUNDS. Good luck!

Marantz SR-780
This is a great receiver. Remote is great. Sound quality is crisp and clean - much more so than the Denon AVR-3200 I bought both, tried on identical DVD player and speakers. Marantz has way better remote. Both are short on power at 85 watts/channel. I really wanted the AVR-3600 or the Marantz 880 but neither of these had 6 channel pre-inputs. For sound quality I'd go with the Marantz in this price range although the Denon is a very nice unit. I ultimately took both of them back to the store and got a Yamaha DSP AV-1.
