Entry: Astronomy:Equipment Reviews:Barlows:Apogee Shorty 1.25" 2x Barlow

A good bargain for a Barlow. Bought this with their 32mm Super Quality Plossl and they make a nice match. Makes a even better match with my 22mm Panoptic though. Mostly used on Moon. Only good on Deep Sky Objects in steady seeing. I do recommend this when economics is an issue. (If not: get a Televue!)

For the money, this a nice buy. F.O.V. isn't wide-screen but images are pretty sharp and fairly bright in my 10" f/4.5 Dob. Also bought their 2X Barlow and they make a nice pair together. Good e.p. for those on a budget. Comes with quality bolt/screw-on type container bottle.

Wow! Very impressed with this hunk of glass! Got this on sale and almost felt so bad about it I wanted to send Al some extra money! Super sharp, crisp, bright images in my 10" f/4.5 dob. The 68 degree F.O.V. is almost more than the eye and brain can compute! This is my first in the focuser e.p.! You almost don't need a finder scope with this one! WOW! 1 pound weight may throw some scopes off balance but you'll get over it!

Excellent eyerelief of couse, but not as impressed overall with this e.p. as I expected for the price. So much glass causes a smokier image. Somewhat fainter images than compared with a 12.5 mm UO ortho at half the price. Not neccessarily saying I don't like it, it just isn't used as much as my orthos! Great on the moon! Better results in dark skies. I'm using a 10" f/4.5 dob.

Very nice e.p. in my 10" f/4.5 Dob! Great on planets; planetaries; doubles; faint fuzzies; globs; comet comas; the moon; you name it! Very satisfied with it in my fairly light saturated urban backyard! A little short on eye relief for those with glasses; with my contacts it's GREAT!Also, F.O.V. a bit narrow but the image quality is excellent! Fainter stars "pop out" compared to other e.p.'s of similar focal length. I own Vixen/Panoptic/Meade et al, e.p.'s and am very impressed with this economical jewel. Also ordered the 12.5 mm and am just as enthused with it.
