Subject: RKE 28mm EP name By: Anonymous (xxx.xxx.40.82) Date: 09/16/2005 03:02:12 pm PST RKE stands for "Rank Kellner EP" Rank Precision Industries did the original optical design for Edmund Scientific....yes it IS a reversed kellner 1-2 instead of 2-1. Glass is newer too!! I've been interested in EP's since 1958, tracking down patent papers from Aerman, British and American designs and bios of the opticians envolved. I am a ATM'er, since 1964. I just put a WWII graduated reticle into a 28mm RKE, to be used with a 63.5mm f:5.9 GuideFinder® (built for me by Sheldon Faworski 10 years ago) with a U.O. Amici diagonal. This will go on my CAVE/ Starliner 10" f: 6 which I keep outside Plymouth WI. in a barn. Makes a nice 13x63 finder to go with the Criterion 6x30 finder on it. I have an original GuideFinder® Prototype, from the early 70's. It sits on a Unitron pedestal tripod ($50 from Shel')for bird watching, enjoying our courtyard garden. It now gets a chinese Meade 25mm MA in place of the RKE....MA's are reworked kellners too but only in formula....not near so much eye reiekf as the RKE and a narrower (45º) apparent field, but looking at the bricks accross the street (@75 yds) it is quite sharp with this ex- Norden Bomb Sight OG (a semi-apochromat doublet) OG was quite expensive during WWII.
