Just posting some first impressions, the acid test under the stars is yet to come.

First impressions are mixed. One of the main reasons I got this eyepiece was for the improved eye relief, which I'm not sure is significantly better than a 4mm ortho in this case. I'm also less than impressed that these eyepieces do not come with dust caps and came in zip-lock bags. Eyepieces of the caliber advertised by this price tag should unquestionably come with dust caps at the minimum.

In use, eye relief, though tight, prooved to be not too difficult or uncomfortable. Eyelashes will rub on the top of this eyepiece, but the eye lens is recessed so as not to collect garbage from your eyelashes. Terestial subjects in a small f/6 refractor showed nice contrast an no diseranable distortion as one would expect from an orthoscopic based design. The coatings show a nice uniform deep purple tint, and the eyepiece is nicely machined from solid stock. It is certainly a very nice eyepiece to look at as well as through.

So far so good except for some initial let downs. Now the skies overhead need to clear.

I own the 3.1 and 2.1mm versions of this EP when it was made for PMO. (Pocono Mtn. Optics) in an earlier model. I use a Meade 6600 scope of 80s vintage with superb optics. 6" f/5. The listed EPs give me 244x and 361x respectively and the EPs show Mars and Saturn flawlessly with much sharpness and contrast. For Jupiter, I use the 10" Starfinder with the 5.5mm SEV because the obstruction is less and it gives better views. Again there is lots of contrast and crispness. The 5.5mm rattled when I first got it but I opened it up and tightened the spanner set screw. Now it doesn't rattle anymore and the views are great. I would recommend these EPs for planetary observing to anyone with a Newtonian that has good optics. I haven't tested these EPs on a refractor but they would probaly perform just as well.
