Subject: Antares 5-8mm zoom eyepiece review By: Anonymous (xxx.xxx.222.130) Date: 07/11/2002 10:38:09 pm PST The performance of the Antares 5-8 zoom eyepiece is simply incredible. I usually scan my star quarry with a 22mm panoptic knowing that once I pop the the zoom in I will not be disappointed. Be it plantets or star clusters the views are always spectacular with this eyepiece. I am always in awe of the amount of light transmission with this eyepiece compared with other more expensive eyepieces considered top of the line. The sensation I always experience with this eyepeice is one of being "drawn in" visually as a result of the extensive field of view. It is definitely my favorite eyepiece in my collection and for the price a fantastic optical bargain! Superb quality for such a low priced piece. > >is the 10mm wa as good as a radian ? ----------------------------------------------------------- I have a speers waler 5-8mm zoom and I tested it out a couple of days ago. Contrast= Amazing , considering there are 9 elements!! Sharpness= Flat right to the edge of the fieldstop Eye Relief= 12mm , just right if you don't wear glasses, but a tad tight when you need to see the entire FOV. Zoom factor= works great if you don't want to reach for that barlow, but having to unscrew the thumbscrew can get annoying. Overall score= 8/10 Very sharp images when you need a bit more power, I would have to say it performs like the 6.7mm Meade series 5000 UWA, which is a nice, sharp eyepiece !!! Page 1 of 1 |
