I noticed this scope is listed as a achromat. It is a true apo no doubt about it. Just thought to pass this along to the moderator.

It's a Semi-APO using low dispersion glass----It's not a flourite or tripplet configuration....

I have looked through one and the view was repulsive. There was a ton of false color. My f/5 120 ST $200 OTA beat the "ED"100 I saw.

I'm not an Orion basher. THe 80ED, I have one, is EXCELLENT.

You must of viewed through a highly miscollimated sample or on with some other serious optical problem because all the several samples of the Synta Skywatcher FPL-53 ED100 doublets I have viewed with have been very good comparing very well to many other high end doublet apo's such as the TV 102. Very good ca and spherical correction on par with my Skywatcher ED80 but with even better resolution and light grasp. A killer on the planets and double stars and lunar features at high power. Scope also delivers a perfect textbook diffraction pattern at high power with no visible false color even on Vega. No ST 120 could possibly remotely compared to properly performing Synta ED100 in regards to color correction and resolution and contrast IMHO. You must of viewed with one very few poor sample of this fine scope. By the way FPL-53 when used with a proper mating element falls by definition into the true apo class just as the ED80 does with it's same glass cofiquiration .

I have been looking to buy the ED100, with it's new Sirus mount, I did noticed that they have gone up $100, instead of down, and there is a wait, do you think it is worth it??
Thanks, Bill
