Lamont,

You are a total dumbass and a complete idiot!!!

This scope has great optics and is an incredible value. Every experienced astronomer that has looked through mine has been amazed and had nothing but wonderful things to say about it. Actually almost everyone that has looked through my ED80 wants to go out and buy one!

Oh and by the way... Learn how to spell you dummy! Duh!

Anthony

Hi psycho,

this was for the average, you brainless child!
Compare this scope with TMB 80mm triplet APO and rate it
again. But first think then rate (so you must switch on your
brain (if there is one) first).
I would rate: TMB 10, Orion 5!
Got it?

So you call me an idiot and psycho?
You must be one of the beginners who rate it a 10?
(never looked through a real "10" like Astrophysics, Zeiss
or TMB?)
Whats you're IQ, "10" too???

Yes, there are some moderators, but the philosophy of this site is to have everyone express their views, good or bad. The criteria for vote removal is usually that the vote is 1) completely unuseful (very short comments) and 2) the vote is anonymous.

Otherwise, we also rely on users to self-moderate by rating votes.

thank you for responding , but surely you can see whats
happening here , people giving 1 ratings wihout any
knowledge of the product just out of anger. this site has been
very helpfull to me in the past. this is just wrong its not an opinion its expressed anger and i stand by my original comment. A 1 vote out of anger is completly useless
how can you not agree?

thank you for your attention.

Hi,

you're right, but for the money you get no 10.
A Volkswagen Beetle in the 50's was a bargain for the money
and loved by many people. But it was no 10.
Therefore you had to buy a Porsche 550-A Spyder, "this" was a 10.
I rate the Orion (Synta) 80mm ED a 7.5, not more.
More ratings of me (wha i looked through):
C8 (black/starbright) 7
C5 (white/starbright) 8
Tak FS-60C 8.5
Tak FS-102 9
Zeiss AS 100/1000 8
Zeiss APQ 130 10
Vixen NA 120 7
Vixen 90L (1300mm) 8
Bresser (Synta) 4"f/10 6
Bresser (Synta) 80/400 (Champ) 4
Bresser 114/1000 (Catad.) 3
Bresser 150/1300 (Catad.) 5
Bresser 90/1000 6
Hama 60/700 (Powerteleskop) 1

Is that better??

We try not to cast editorial judgment on the votes. There are many votes I don't agree with, but I can't just delete them without the site turning into a soapbox of what I think is good and bad. The site is about what its visitors think.

I think what some people need to consider is that everyone doesnt have access to the scopes that others do. So if someone rates this a 10, then that is their opinion. Nothing wrong with that.

If its a 10 to them, then I can live with that. Some suggest trying xxx brand and then rate this other brand. In a perfect world that would be the case. However, "most" amateurs dont have access to a large number of scopes. Its not like they are lying or incorrect. If its a 10 to them, thats all I need to know. It is an opinion you know.

So, to come and place a 1--just to make it even, is silly. Who are you to decide what is perfect and what isnt? Some people may be perfectly satisfied with the scope and find that for all intents and purposes--it is perfect--for them.

I dont usually pay attention to the rating. Instead I prefer to read what they have to say about the scope. I can pick up a lot of info from the descriptions. I can read through the lines. Its not as if people make buying decisions based on the rating here. This is more of a repository of people's experience with different scopes. If you view it otherwise you are taking it too seriously. Any purchase should be researched thoroughly before making a decision.

So, it would be nice if you and others like you would stop "policing" these pages. It adds un-necessary clutter to an otherwise useful resource for the rest of us. It, and others like it are most likely not true "10's". However, if thats how the scope made them feel, then I am happy for them. The whole point of Astronomy is to get outside and actually use your mind and explore. Unfortunately its often reduced to dribble like this.

If you dont agree with someone's rating, fine, but dont feel the rest of us need you to "straighten" things up. I think we are all adults and have enough sense to make wise decisions. Besides, a small 60mm refractor to some is perfect. If so, then more power to them.
