10 grand for a 6" scope!!! :o)))))

The laws of physics tell me that this scope would be completely incapable of giving me what I would expect for that kind of money.

Lovely scope, but simply not worth the cost. I've recently used an 8 inch f/8 reflector with a very small central obstruction optimised for planetary use, and it kicked the expensive Taks ass. Maybe the Tak had a slight edge in contrast, but only by a very small amount and the reflector won out on detail and took higher magnification better. The reflector was 1/8th of the price of the Tak.

Would you mind only rating the scopes once. It doesn't give a very accurate representation of the overall feelings about the telescope if sleikind.dsl.visi.com gives it a '10' 4 or 5 times.

All those repeated '10' votes aren't really skewing things too much from the "average vote" standpoint...there are several submissions for this scope that gave it a very low rating solely on the basis of its cost. Apparently if you think it costs too much it must be a terrible telescope (worthy of a '1'), regardless of any other criteria and regardless of whether or not you actually have much experience with it...

I'm sorry if you disapprove, but to every single amateur astronomer I know a telescopes value for money is a huge contributing factor to how it is perceived by the consumer. I personally think they are over priced and that's because I've had one and know exactly what it's capable of although I haven't given it a rating at all. I know that the scopes performance can be surpassed by telescopes less than half the price but I choose not to give it a 1 rating 5 times just to make its average look worse. Neither should someone be giving any of these telescopes multiple 10s to make them look better. Multiple persons' opinions are what make these things worth while and if some choose to give it a bad rating because they think it is over priced then c'est la vie, make your own judgements, but a single person submitting 5 reviews cheapens it somewhat.

I don't think is worth the money unless you have plenty of it. It it better than other telescopes? yes, a little bit. It it worth it at $10000? no way!

I think people should not consider price when you rate this scope. The prospective buyer will, in the end, decide if the scope is worth it depending on its performance.

That is complete nonsense. Everyone considers price when deciding on a telescope. Unfortunately, most people who can afford this scope probably aren't aware that they can buy other scopes that match or exceed this scopes performance for THOUSANDS less. This is a status symbol scope marketed toward wealthy individuals, and a serious case of price gouging by Takahashi.

But, I believe that on this site people should only rate the performance. Maybe what you expect from the telescope is different from what the prospective buyer expects from the scope. I think this site should only rate the performance of a scope and the prospective buyer will decide if it is worth it depending on what the voters on the site say it can do and what the prospective buyer wants it to do for them personally. The FS series of Takahashi scopes are either top two if not numero uno in contrast. If someone wants the absoloute best contrast and doesn't care about color correction as much than the FS152 is one of the best all around scopes for that person. You cannot turn them away from the scope based on your personal needs. Just tell how the scope performs and they will do the rest.

the info in these reviews should help the individual who is going to make a very serious investment with the right decision. not of all of us have money to burn, i know i don't. and i sure would like to know if i can get the same performance and quality for a little less cash.
