I realize this reply is over a year late, but for anyone who is interested, I have owned the 8" research grade (Model 880) for 10 years and I simply love it. The massive mount is absurdly stable for a 8" f6 plus a 3" f15 guidescope and 11x80mm finder. I often think I could let someone sit on the tube assembly and not suffer too many vibrations! Some time ago (late 80s) I was able to use a brand new Meade 12.5 inch model research grade and the same mount is used on this monster - it was up to the task for the 12.5" too. My scope has manual slow motion for both RA and declination and responds very well. Optically, let's just say it always warms my heart to have a 8" SC owner come by and take a look through it, though they can certainly chuckle back at me when I go through the enormous task of breaking it down and hauling off!
Take care,
Dean Karavite
