To learn how to collimate your telescope, check out the NoTools Collimation website (http://gilstrap.home.texas.net/collimat/NoTools.html). This should help provide better images. It's a 4.5" Newtonian reflector. There are two slow motion controls (they look lkke circular black dials on thin plastic black arms, right?) if this is what you lost, then no, you don't need a spring. It should just screw back into the slot that it came out of. Send me a picture, I'll let you know if it's the same set-up as mine. Cheers, Darren BTW, once you learn how to get these telescopes set up, they'll show you pretty decent views of the moon and planets. Some advice though: Find yourself a couple of Plossl eyepeices. The ones that come with the scope are garbage. More advice: Find an astronomy club in your area, and go to a meeting. They'll tell you everything you need to know. Subject: finder focusing By: Anonymous (xxx.xxx.191.66) In Reply to: Darren (Original Vote) Date: 01/02/2006 05:49:35 pm PST I concur with this review -- excellent main objective, poor accessory optics and so-so mounting. However, I accidentally discovered that the finder DOES focus ok. It appears to be fixed-focus, but with a lot of messing around I finally noticed that the eye end of the finder screws out and comes to focus. NEED MORE HELP I have not been able to get my 78-4501 to work at all. I don't know what I'm doing wrong but cannot see a thing through the eyepiece at all. Just black. I've taken it apart and examined everything - and all seems ok - but cannot view anything. Can someone either tell me which way the lens is actually supposed to be set up ? Have tried many combos to no avail. The instructions are very vague and don't inform completely. This is my first telescope and I'm at a complete loss. Thanks for any help. Page 1 of 1 |
