Packed with features, the 10" SN is sure to please!!!

FEATURING:

1. Lots of plastic parts made in China!!

2. Loads of PE, with no autoguiding capability! (Perfect for all of you CCD imagers out there!)

3. Sticky plastic focuser - perfect for that jiggly image not found in lesser scopes!

4. Flexible aluminum legs! Don't be fooled by imitation 'wooden' tripod legs, only our legs are made of extruded aluminum to offer a liberal amount of flexing under the weight of a 10" OTA!

5. Mystery goto-ing! You will have hours of fun playing "where is my scope pointing to!" All you have to do is select an object to goto, and the Autostar will automatically point to a -different- location! You will have countless hours of enjoyment guessing at what object (if any) the scope is actually pointing to! This unique feature is not available on ANY other GOTO scope at any price!

6. NOISE! - and tons of it! Never again will you 'fall alseep at the wheel' as long as the LXD55 is aimlessly slewing to mystery objects! Perfect for those who like a 'less than quiet' observing environment!

7. Quick-detach tube rings! Our tube rings are so easy to detach, you don't even have to touch them! Your scope will effortlessly come off the mount ON IT'S OWN!!! What other scope can promise that?

8. Loads of customer support - and you will need it! You will spend countless hours on the phone with Meade - AT ABSOLUTELY NO COST TO YOU WHATSOEVER! Furthermore, you will spend countless more hours on the Yahoo! groups talking to all the other LXD55 owners! With some telescopes, you could be spending your time looking at celestial objects. With the LXD55, you can spend all of your time fixing it and searching the webgroups for information about how to get it to work properly! This is not your ordinary telescope!

9. Wide-field, low-power views! You will need it to find the object you were hoping the Autostar would find for you!

10. Three free trips to the post office! As a new LXD55 owner, you will be guaranteed at least three trips to the post office to pick up the replacement mount and parts that Meade sends to you!

11. Bent encoders! Only our encoders are bent at the factory to our exacting standards!

12. That satisfied feeling that you saved $300 over the LX-90 - a scope that doesn't feature any of these options!

All of these 'research grade' options are only found on the new 10" LXD-55 Telescope! Order yours today!

Yeah, that's horrible. They're selling the scope, and there is a quote from the manufacturer detailing its features...Any dealer that would do that has to hate the product...*shrug*

P.S. What the hell are you talking about?

Pro Astonomer had stopped taking orders and had posted something about waiting for better QC. I guess they got over it and it's not at that page any more.

Subject: LXD55 Prices in Europe
By: Anonymous (xxx.xxx.200.81)

Hi all!

I just read here, that the LXD55 scopes are made in China. So if this is true, can anybody tell me why eg the LXD55-SN10 is about US$ 2200 here in Germany? And why is it forbidden for US-dealers to ship to europe? I feel kidded by Meade and I believe I will never buy anything from them. I nearly bought the SN10 until I heard off the many problems with this scope and the price was a bit too high. If the price was the same like in USA I would nevertheless buy it. I don't see why shipping from China to Europe is about US$ 1000 more than shipping from China to the USA.

Regards, Lars

I have the same problem. In Austria I have to pay 2300 euro for the Lxd55 SN-10 (1 euro is around 1.01 $). That's a difference of 1300 $!!!! ( With that money I could make holidays in the USA, buy the scope and get back again)

This guy is very dishonest. He gets paid by OPT to advertise the LXD55 scopes on the LXD55 yahoo group. Take EVERYTHING he says with a huge grain of salt.

The reality is that the 10" is way too heavy for the mount, and that the mount is not very accurate at pointing, and lots of bolts and pieces break on it very quickly.

Save your $$ and get an LX-90 instead - it is one of the most trouble-free scopes Meade makes, and is very accurate and has very few problems. Plus, it is ten times easier to set up and tear down, and is much lighter than this 10" piece of CR#P.

I would suggest to all that Nexstar8 must be a very sorry, petty little man who can't quite figure out how to work his scope... thus he resorts to publishing totally false, non supported allegations. I would invite him to substantiate his accusations as I know he would never do them face to face.

I do not work for or get paid by OPT or Meade. I did publish the guide: Tips & Tricks at the request of OPT and with input from many LXD55 users (all credited). You may want to view this file and make your own judgement. It can be viewed or downloaded at:

http://www.optcorp.com/pdf/TipsTricks1.pdf

I've also had reviews published on CloudyNights.com at:

http://www.cloudynights.com/mounts2/lxd55-2.htm

So... while the LXD series has its shortcomings - the potential is great... and I am only trying to help those that want to optimize their scope or make an informed choice.

Just what is Nexstar doing to help anyone? Ask him that.

You can even email me directly at: warpcorp@swbell.net.

Your comments are always welcome!

Respectfully,

Warp

Just goes to show how really dishonest this guy is!
He got PAID by OPT to publish the "tips and tricks".

As for MY contribution - as stated before, I have owned one of these pieces of junk, and have warned everyone here - BUYER BEWARE!!! So I have certainly done my part - as for this Huckster Warp, draw your own conclusions. Almost anywhere you go on the web (including here) you see MANY MORE bad reviews than good ones of this scope. Like I said, when this guy says it is perfect and flawless, take it with a huge grain of salt - he has been paid to promote these telescopes - that is why he is just about the only person who spends tons of energy promoting the scope wherever he can. It is no coincidence that his reviews are just about the only glowing ones out there.

My 10" SN was WAY undermounted, and just about everything fell apart immediately. Even Sky and Telescope reviews stated that the 10" was undermounted. So either this guy got a different telescope than everyone else, or he is a paid promoter.

His efforts to defend himself here only make him seem more suspicious. Since he has posted his email, maybe everyone here should send him a "thank you" letter after they waste their money on this piece of junk because he gave out false and misleading information.

Good night!

This is seriously true. Warpcorp is well-known on the Yahoo! group to be a big plugger for the LXD55 scopes. Don't take his reviews seriously. Even the very best scopes I have owned all had some problems - anyone who says that his telescope is "flawless" should not be taken very seriously. It is obvious that warpcorp has either his ego tied up in his telescope, or that he works for Meade.

If you are considering buying this scope, be aware that it is plagued with tons of problems and quality control issues. The best advice is to save your money and go with an LX90 instead, as the other guy said. I used to own one and it never had any problems, and pointed much better than my LXD55 did. With the sale on LX90's going on right now, they are a much better choice. 5 years down the road you will be much happier that you bought a quality telescope instead of an LXD55 piece of junk.
