The star test was pretty good,Vega is clear white.
The brightness is also good, good optics. The motor tracking on it's German
equatorial mount with the Autostar is pretty smooth, nice.
Now the mount is helacious. Very stable. I'm surprised with Meade telescopes.
The other Meades i own (I own 8 telescopes) are also like that ( the LX90 and LXD 7'' ED/APO). A good choice for intermediate astronomers.

This is for the previous reviewer .... You said "Now the mount is helacious." But then in the very next sentence, you said "Very stable". I'm confused. Is it stable or unstable? If stable, what did you mean by "helacious"? The photo suggests unstable. Thanks ....

I actually think on the 8 inch version of this scope that the mount and tripod will be fine. If you go for the 10 inch version on the other hand with this mount and tripod it will be a different story.

The scope is not even available yet. Ignore the above review.

Any rating on this telescope before at least December 1, 2001 is bunk. I am purchasing this telescope and it is not available until then, at the earliest. I spoke to meade and they said that noone has them. If you want to check out reviews on this scope I would check back near the end of December.

To the Spanish talking person...

"AUN NO SE ESTAN VENDIENDO ESTOS TELESCOPIOS..., PROBABLEMENTE PARA PRINCIPIOS/MEDIADOS DE DICIEMBRE..."

Sorry guys, had to let the guy know that the LXD line is still not for sale... I'm also interested in knowing how they really perform, even though I can pretty much tell that THE MOUNT is going to be a problem for most of them...
We'll see....

Clear skies to you all!

How did this scope get a review already when they haven't started shipping yet??? The Meade dealer I talked to this week said he didn't anticipate shipment until after New Year sometime. The representitive at Meade customer service that I called said he hadn't seen one yet and had no word on when shipments would start on the "pre-sold" units. He also couldn't tell me if the components would be plastic, ala Meade cost cutting habits, as the customer service group has no tech specs other than the advertisment to refer too. With that said I am also very intriqued by the potential this scope has but I'm going to get a visual and hands on inspection of this one from my local dealer before I order one. With regards to the mount, in the newtonian configuartion the tripod will be used at it's lowest setting so it might actually be stable enough for observing even with the 10" model? I currently have the very big Skywatcher 6" reflector and while the EQ head is nice and tight the similar tripod doesn't past the smell test. I was going to put it on one of AstroSky's pedestal mounts to solve the problem but am waiting to see if I should trade my relector for one of these newfangled Schmidt/Newts.

I bet the "review" was written by this guy called daSentinel. just compare the address to the address in some of his other "reviews", for example on the Meade LX200 16" and Takahashi FCT200. he claims he'll buy this $170.000 scope. very credible indeed. now he's the only one around with a LXD55 while the rest is still at the factory??
....what a dick.
