>The LXD-55 is a quality mount. The motors do make noise, but the sounds are quality sounding, and it does have a Quiet Slew Option. It can jump a little from time to time, but doesn't seem to affect it's accuracy.

You mention a "Quiet Slew Option". Is this quiet mode availble during the automatic goto functions and during intitial alignment procedures or only on manual slewing? How do you set this mode? I have been unable to find a way to limit the motors from going full speed during goto and alignment setup procedures. The full speed motors are too loud for my apartment complex, but if you found the quiet mode, or a way to limit the motors to one step below full speed during goto and alignment setup, please share how to enable it! Thanks! You can email me directly at willk_1@excite.com with a response.

i just recieved this scope the ota only, this is my second scope, i also have a mk-67, this scope the ar-5 has very little color fringing only at very high power, i purchased this scope used, for 300.00 i am very impressed so far, as a matter of fact like it better than my mk-67, i have been a novice astronomer for a few years now, and for the money , quailty, it rates up there for a anchromatic refractor, its funny how people will talk about the big high dollar refractors,or even the scts for that matter, that cost thousands of dollars, but this scope is a great all around scope , star test are good planets are good, deep space is great, i would tell people to buy a scope like this and forget about paying the big bucks for a scope, why when you can have fun with this scope , optics are a solid 9.5 cost a 10 and ease of use a 10 i really hope this helps all the newbies out there clear skies
